WorldPhone SF1 is one of the new entrants to the smartphone Arena. Obi is a new brand and was launched in India on 7 December 2015 exclusively on the Gadget 360 website. Now the smartphone has got launched on Amazon India too and also received a price cut of Rs. 1400. You will see the reduced price on checking out after you add the device to buying cart.
There are already more than 30 brands competing in the Indian smartphone market and Obi is another new brand trying its luck in the growing Indian economy.
The Obi brand was launched by the former C.E.O of Apple computers John Sculley, who had a fallout with the legendary Steve Jobs and was later asked to leave Apple Computers.
The Obi brand has introduced two models the Obi Worldphone SF1 and the Obi Worldphone Sj 1.5. Only the SF1 model was launched on 7th December 2015.
The Obi WorldPhone is ideally made to target the developing countries and is getting launched in India, Vietnam, and Thailand which are seeing the explosion of mobile sales. The smartphone will be sold in countries in Asia, Africa, and the middle east.
The SF1 – stands for San Francisco and SJ 1.5 – stands for the San Jose.
The Obi smartphone Sf1 comes with engraving at the back which says designed in San Francisco, and it does not, however, say manufactured in San Francisco, likely is manufactured in China (nothing wrong with that).
The smartphone is available in 2 models :
- Obi SF1 with 16 GB Storage & 2 GB RAM – Priced Rs. 11,999 ($190) after Sf1:price cut of Rs. 1400 – 10,599
- Obi SF1 with 32 GB Storage & 3 GB RAM – Priced Rs. 13,999 ($220) after the price cut of Rs. 1400 – 12,599
Obi Worldphone Sf1: Initial Impressions
The smartphone has a peculiar design, something which may be pretty to some of the viewers and other may term it as weird.
The raised screen and the flat top reminds somewhat of the Nokia Lumia series smartphones. The smartphone has a curved bottom edge while the top is flat – really flat which makes it look
The smartphone is powered by the 64 Bit Octa- Core Snapdragon 615 processor and is accompanied by Adreno 405 GPU.
The Ram and storage vary as per the model and price as mentioned above.
The smartphone has Dual Sim (Micro + nano) and supports 4G LTE bands in India along with the native support for 3G and 2G.
The smartphone has a 13 megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor IMX214 Sensor, f/2.0 Aperture lens. The front camera is a five-megapixel shooter for taking selfies.
As per the initial reports, the camera is just at par nothing extraordinary, compared to some of the better camera smartphones.
The smartphone, however, comes with an excellent Full HD Display with 1920*1080 resolution on a 5-inch screen. The smartphone display has good colors and contrast and offers high 443 Pixels per inch.
The display comes with Gorilla Glass 4 and oleophobic coating to prevent scratches and oil smudge on the screen.
The battery capacity is 3000 mAH which comes with Quick Charge 1.0 technology from Qualcomm to ensure faster charging.
The smartphone has an 8 mm thickness ( 7.8 mm body and 0.2 mm for the floating raised display). The weight is also not too high – 147 grams.
The smartphone runs on the Android Lollipop 5.02; there is no word about the mobile getting updated to the Android marshmallow 6.0.
The smartphone also boasts of noise cancellation and Dolby Audio features.
Overall it is an excellent smartphone, there are no real shortcomings, as far as the specs are concerned. However, some more user feedback can be looked at before buying the new Obi World phone.
