Initial Thoughts

If you are looking for the best smartphone up to Rs. 40000, the OnePlus 3T is the best bet. OnePlus 3 was a fantastic device, but the OnePlus 3T is impeccable.

Don’t buy the OnePlus 3 older version, as the new version offers a lot of improvements, for a slight increase in price. In comparison to the more expensive smartphones like the Google Pixel, iPhone 7, the OnePlus 3T offers tremendous value for money and equally good performance.

The only gripe can be the camera quality which is a little bit better on some of the more expensive devices like Samsung S7 and Google Pixel.

The OP3 came in Graphite color, which was a slightly darker shade of silver. Soon, forwarding to the end of 2016, they released yet another more powerful version OP 3T.  It’s now available in a new Gunmetal / Soft Gold color option, which is a darker shade of grey.

Their recent collaboration with Collete gained a lot of attention since they introduced a new Matte Black color option. At first, the Collete edition was limited to only 250 units.

Also, to avail that phone, one should either be a citizen of Paris or fly to Paris to buy that limited edition.

To our surprise, the immense response from the fans out there forced OnePlus to come up with a same “Midnight Black” color option for a broader range of audience. Yes, there’s a new color choice for the users who are eagerly waiting to buy the 3T.

The all-new color option is intact the same color from the Collete edition, without the fancy Collete branding. OnePlus was keen on releasing the OP3 in black color option way before its inception.

Why is The OnePlus 3T Midnight Black So Alluring?

There were, in fact, an array of leaks, where the upcoming OP3 was shown in a black color variant. Since it was only their 4th phone and they weren’t as big as they’re now, they had to cut short on their inventory for the new color and instead settled with the Graphite and Soft Gold variants.

Now they’ve successfully released the flagships; they’re now able to release the crowd favorite Midnight Black color. It’s not any usual coating, OnePlus have used the space-grade aluminum with three dark coatings 14 microns thick to keep the beauty intact. Their main focus was on fingerprint smudges on the plain black variants, like the ones found on iPhone 7 Matte Black option.

The OnePlus 3T Midnight Black, it has the same spec list like the other 3Ts. It still flaunts the 5.5 inches Full HD  AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass on top. It is driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SOC with Adreno 530 GPU.

Also,  the processor is coupled with a whopping 6 GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s no storage expansion option, but the presence of 128 GB would be more than enough for everyone out there. The OnePlus 3T Midnight Black featured 16 MP front and rear sensors with OIS, PDAF and improved EIS v2.0.

Powering the phone is a more than enough 3400mAh battery pack, running the power efficient chipset, Full HD AMOLED display & the lightest Android skin after Motorola. There’s Dash charging complementing the big battery capacity.

Fortunately, India will also be one of the markets to be graced with the new color option. It’ll be sold through, and their Experience store at Bangalore. The pre-order has started on Amazon and will be available to buy on 31st March at 2 pm.

This color option indicates a vast possibility of OnePlus 5 being released with 3 color options, Gunmetal Grey, Midnight Black and Soft Gold.

OnePlus 3T 128 GB Not Available In India

In a rather strange post yesterday (26th May 2017) – Oneplus officially announced that they are discontinuing the OnePlus 3T.

There is limited stock which is available for the smartphone in some countries like North America, Hong Kong, and Europe, so the customers in those countries can buy the smartphone if they wish.

While the OnePlus 3T stock is there in India and it is available for purchase both on Amazon India and OnePlus official store. We can’t find the OnePlus 3T 128 GB model on either of the sites.

No Option available to Buy OnePlus 3T 128 GB

Moreover, the option to buy the OnePlus 3T model on the official Oneplus website is not visible now. While you can still buy the OnePlus 3T with 64 GB storage in India in both the colors – Gunmetal and Soft Gold.

While there have been many news in media about continuation or discontinuation of OnePlus 3T in India, there is still ambiguity about it.  Though currently, the OnePlus 3T 64 GB is available in India for purchase, the 128 GB variant is not available. The 128 GB version of the smartphone is removed from the official Oneplus store as well.

Below is the official statement shared by the OnePlus staff member about the OnePlus 3T discontinuation.

Official statement from OnePlus

Also, the OnePlus 3T is discontinued ahead of the launch of OnePlus 5 which is expected to happen in June 2017. The OnePlus 5 is what the company is going to focus next, and they would not like to have an inventory of older phones.

Additionally, if you visit the Oneplus Store and try to buy the OnePlus 3, you are redirected to buy the OnePlus 3T. While on Amazon India the OnePlus 3 is still available for 64 GB storage at Rs 23500 which is the lowest price we have seen.

Probably Amazon is also clearing the stock for OnePlus 3 now to make way for the new OnePlus 5.

Buy OnePlus 3T Black Colette But First Book a Ticket To Paris

If you are looking to buy Buy OnePlus 3T Black Colette, you may need to book a ticket to Paris. I am not kidding. OnePlus has come up with another color option, but this time it’s a limited “Colette Edition” which will only be available in one store that is in Paris (France).

The term “limited” means, OnePlus will only sell 250 handsets of this new color option.  The new deep black color looks dope, but there are very few units which are produced. It is limited unlike some of the limited edition things which are mass produced for everyone.

This edition flaunts the Pitch Black with matte finish option with “Colette” engraved at the bottom. Some days ago, OnePlus teased their venture with Colette by posting the launch date, i.e., 3/15/17 with a purple background and Colette mentioned at the bottom.

They’ve held several pop-up events in different countries, to showcase their Flagship 3T. OnePlus will sell the “Colette Edition” which will be on sale on March 21st, Thursday. At their store in Paris, located at 213 Rue Saint-Honore.

The 128 GB variant is priced at €479 (approx Rs 34,000). It’ll be available from 11 am. It’ll be “First come…first serve”, where people who’ll come early will receive a free pair of OnePlus bullet headphones.

The craze for Pitch Black colour variant is in vogue, all because of Apple iPhone 7. The Matte Black in iPhone 7 has motivated a lot of Android OEMs to introduce their flagships in Black colour options.

The all-new Colette Edition looks sleek and enticing enough. Though the blue coloured teasers made us think that we are going to get something Blue like the Google Pixel. But it is black and only available in Paris which might disappoint a lot of fans out there. Although, this can be an indication of OnePlus including this colour option for their upcoming OnePlus 5 flagship smartphone.

OnePlus Team has Also announced a Free OnePlus 3T Give Away and is also offering a Free Ticket to Paris – Here is a link to the OnePlus 3T Contest. We recently reviewed the OnePlus 3 after using it for 6 months and, the mobile has been very impressive all along offering great speed and experience.

Though the camera performance on the OnePlus 3 is not up to the mark. The OnePlus 3T does have a similar rear camera but comes with an upgraded front camera. The OnePlus 5 is expected to come with the Dual Rear camera which is supposedly much better compared to the camera used on either OnePlus 3 or the 3T.

You can read more about the latest OnePlus 5 which is recently launched with a Dual camera or can read my review of the OnePlus 3 here.
