OnePlus 7 and Oneplus 7 Pro India Launch, Price, Specs, Comparison

Oneplus has launched the new flagship phones for the year 2019, yesterday at an event in Bangalore.

The company has launched the regular Oneplus 7, an upgrade to the current Oneplus 6T, and the new more premium Oneplus 7 Pro.

This year company has launched not one but two flagship mobiles along with the new Bullet Wireless headphones.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

The event was packed with tech enthusiasts, bloggers and YouTubers, some of whom already have the device for some days to use.

Let’s First have a look at what is new with the Oneplus 7 Pro and Oneplus 7 and then we will look at the comparison, pricing strategy, why two phones and some cons.

Both the Oneplus 7 and the 7 Pro are entirely different from each other and hence, I am covering these separately.

Oneplus 7 PRO

The Oneplus 7 Pro price starts at Rs. 48,999 and will go on sale on 16th May for the Amazon Prime buyers whereas for the normal buyers the sale starts on 17th May. More details are given below in the price and availability section.

Design and Display

The 7 Pro comes with a glass back design and the front side of the phone has just the display, no notches or cutout cameras.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

There is a pop-up selfie camera as we have seen in the several other phones from Vivo and Oppo.

The design looks fantastic with slight gradient finish and curved display. This is the first Oneplus phone to come with a QHD+ display panel that offers 3120 x 1440 pixels resolution at 516 ppi.

The display even comes with support for HDR and HDR+ for superior streaming experience on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Besides this is the largest display on any Oneplus phone with 6.67 Inch Fluid AMOLED with 90 Hz refresh rate.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

There are few gaming phones like the Asus ROG and Razer phone that came with higher refresh rate displays for a more fluid experience.

The 90 Hz display makes the experience better and faster for both gaming and day to day usage.

The downside of having a QHD+ panel and higher refresh rate is lower battery life.

The Oneplus 7 Pro comes with a slightly curved display which looks great but I still prefer the flat displays.

Curved panels tend to break easily due to falls or even have a problem of accidental touches when using the phone. But if you have used one of the Samsung curved panels then probably you know how it feels.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

Further, the Oneplus 7 Pro is a bit bulky, weighs 206 grams and has 8.8 mm thickness.

The Oneplus 7 Pro is the first phone to come to India with the Snapdragon 855 flagship processor and the Adreno 640 GPU.

It is an Octa-Core processor based on the 7 Nm manufacturing process and comes with the highest clock speed of 2.84 GHz.

It is nearly 20% faster in comparison to the Snapdragon 845 seen on the previous generation flagship phones.

OnePlus is also using the liquid cooling technology to keep temperatures in check

Also, we get the new UFS 3.0 storage with the Oneplus 7 Pro (world’s first mobile other than the Galaxy Fold).

The UFS 3.0 is faster internal storage in comparison to the UFS 2.1 which is available on most top of the line phones.

Besides, there is up to 12 GB of DDR4 ram to ensure that it works flawlessly. There are new features like the Ram boost that enables loading of Apps from the Ram for even faster loading times.

Lastly, for gamers, there is a fnatic mode which provides a distraction-free gaming experience.

Os and Battery Life

The Oneplus 7 Pro comes with Oxygen OS along with the Android 9.0 Pie and will also get the Android Q update soon.

Further, the phone has a 4000 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to last it all day. But you will not get higher battery life in comparison to the regular Oneplus 7 (comes with 3700 mAH capacity battery), due to the higher resolution and refresh rate display.

Nevertheless, we get a 30 Watts (6Volt and 5 Amp charger in the Box) Warp Charger that can charge the phone from 0-50% in 40 minutes and fully charge it in 1 hour 25 minutes.

For imaging, the 7 Pro comes with triple rear camera setup and has a normal lens, wide angle and telephoto(3x Zoom) lens.

The primary camera is a Sony IMX586 sensor with 48 Megapixel camera, 7P lens, OIS, EIS and f/1.6 aperture for better low light imaging.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

The telephoto lens comes with 8 MP sensor and has f/2.4 aperture and OIS support. The third 16 MP lens has an ultra-wide 117-degree view with f/2.2 aperture and no OIS.

The camera can record 4K videos at 60 FPS and has support for 1080P slo-mo support up to 240 FPS.

At the front, there is a pop-up 16MP selfie camera that comes with the Sony IMX 471 sensor and has f/2.0 aperture and EIS support.

Oneplus 7 PRO (1)

Other Features

The Oneplus 7 Pro comes with USB Type C port without a headphone jack. You can use type C headphones or wireless headsets.

Another important highlight is the presence of DOLBY Audio and even it comes with twin stereo speakers for an immersive experience.

The phone has Bluetooth 5.0 support along with apTx and apTX HD for better audio when using wireless headphones.

The haptic vibrations are improved on the phone and there is even support for face unlocking.

The in-display fingerprint scanner is the second generation and is speedier than the OnePlus 6T.

There is Dual Sim, Dual VOLTE support but there is no support for micro-sd card for storage expansion.

Overall the Oneplus 7 Pro is a big upgrade from the Oneplus 6T in terms of better display, performance and camera capability.

OnePlus 7

The Oneplus 7 Pro price starts at Rs. 48,999 and will go on sale on 16th May for the Amazon Prime buyers whereas for the normal buyers the sale starts on 17th May. More details are given below in the price and availability section.

Design and Display

The Oneplus 7 looks similar to the OnePlus 6T and comes with a water-drop notch with a selfie camera at the front.

Also, the display is smaller on Oneplus 7 (6.41 Inch) in comparison to the OnePlus 7 Pro (6.67 Inch).

Oneplus 7 image (1)

The Oneplus 7 comes with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and has a 2340*1080 pixels resolution Optic AMOLED display that comes with 2.5D curved glass and has Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The Oneplus 7 also comes with the top of the line SD 855 processor and has Adreno 640 GPU. There is DDR4 Ram up to 8 GB and you can get a maximum of 256 GB internal storage space.

The Oneplus 7 comes with Dual rear cameras instead of the title cameras on the Pro variant. The primary rear camera has a Sony IMX586 sensor with 48 Megapixel camera, OIS, EIS and f/1.7 aperture for better low light imaging.

Oneplus 7 image (1)

The secondary rear camera comes with a 5 MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture and has a fixed focus.

The front camera is located at the notch and comes with the Sony IMX 471 sensor with 16 MP resolution and f/2.0 aperture.

Os and Battery Life

The mobile comes with similar software experience as the Pro version. However, the battery capacity is lower (3700 mAH) instead of the 4000 mAH on the Pro variant.

There is a 5 volts and 4A charger (20 Watts) with the new OnePlus 7 which is slower than the Warp charger on the higher variant.

Other Features

Other features are similar to the Oneplus 7 Pro and the only change you will see is the faster face-unlocking on the Oneplus 7 as it doesn’t have the Pop-Up selfie camera.

The base variant for the Oneplus 7 looks very attractive at the moment but there are more phones launching soon such as Zenfone 6, Xiaomi K20 Pro or the Realme X which can under cut the pricing in the coming days.

Price and Availability Oneplus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in India

Let’s have a look at the variants and price for all the variants that are launched by the brand.

OnePlus 7 Pro Nebula Blue 8+ 256 GB, 12 + 256GB INR 52999, INR 57,999 28 May

OnePlus 7 Red 8+256 GB INR 37,999 June
OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2 NA INR 5,990 Coming soon

The Oneplus 7 Pro starts at Rs. 48,999 in India for the 6 GB + 128 GB storage version, the 8 GB Ram and 256 GB storage variant costs Rs. 52,999. The higher model costs Rs. 57,999 and comes with a whopping 12 GB of ram and 256 GB internal storage.

For most people, I think the best deal is the Rs. 52,999 variant, as for an additional Rs. 4,000 we are getting 2 GB more ram and additional 128 GB storage.

On the other hand, the Oneplus 7 pricing starts at Rs. 32,999 which came as a surprise to me, as the Oneplus 6T was launched Rs. 5000 higher.

Now let me answer, one important question –

Why did OnePlus Launched 2 different phones and kept the Price for the Oneplus 7 lower?

It is a very thoughtful and strategic move by the brand, the Oneplus 7 is cheaper to keep the market share and prevent upcoming phones like POCO F2 and Asus Zenfone 6 (successor to the 5Z) from eating into the share of the higher mid-range market.

Secondly, Oneplus also wanted to target the premium phone market ruled by Samsung, Apple, Huawei and Google by providing a true flagship experience, yet being slightly cheaper. Hence they came up with the Oneplus 7 Pro.

The Oneplus 7 Pro is the flagship phone which comes with nearly all the features you will get in the modern flagships and yet it is 12-15k cheaper than the Galaxy S10, S10+, Pixel 3XL etc.

Now there is another very interesting thing you need to know. There is no headphone jack on these phones and Oneplus is selling the new Oneplus wireless bullets at Rs. 5,999. The price is higher by Rs. 2,000 in comparison to the old model which was launched for Rs. 3,999.

Oneplus will not be making too much money on the base Oneplus 7 variant but they are going to make good money by selling the headphones and the Pro models.

Also, the good thing is now they are able to compete with lower-priced mid-range phones and the flagship with two entirely different products.

OnePlus 7 Early Leaks

There are a couple of images leaked on the Social Media Website Twitter by @Steven_Sbw claiming to be the upcoming Oneplus 7.

Below image was shared on Twitter which shows a truly bezel-less phone. It comes without a front camera or a notch or even a punch hole camera like the Samsung S10.

Oneplus 7 Leaked Image

However, it is not likely that Oneplus will skip the front camera on the next flagship, but it is going to be a pop-up shooter similar to the Vivo V15 Pro or the Oppo F11 Pro.

Vivo launched the Nex and Nex S previously with the selfie pop-up camera and now both the brands are exploring the pop-up camera in other phones.

Obviously, they would have improved the first generation camera of Vivo Nex and the technology is getting more mature.

We have in the past seen in-display fingerprint scanner first coming on the Vivo phones and then launching on the OnePlus 6T.

To recall, the water drop notch was also launched on the Oppo F9 Pro and later was used in the Oneplus 6T.

Considering Oneplus 6T already have a water drop notch, if Oneplus want to bring some freshness to design they have a couple of options – a pop-up camera, a punch hole display, or a sliding camera.

Since both Vivo and Oppo are testing and trying the POP-Up cameras it is highly likely that the above leak may be true.

There are still a couple of months from the launch of OnePlus 7 but most likely the company will finalize the design during Feb or early March.

What’s More, Expected from Oneplus 7?

A gradient Dual tone back and triple rear cameras

If there is something more enticing than the glass back shiny designs, it is the two-tone gradient finish.

Looking at the Xiaomi Mi 9, it is quite likely that Oneplus may also offer a similar design.

Dual Cameras are SO 2017, it is time to add more cameras. Oneplus 7 in all likely hood will come with triple rear cameras, very similar to the Samsung S10.

It is likely to offer a refined 48 MP primary rear sensor, a wide-angle camera with fixed focus and a telephoto lens with optical Zoom capability.

Add a 32 MP or a similar camera in the V15 Pro to the front and we are game for selfies.

Performance is something, folks at Oneplus takes very seriously. We are pretty sure that the Oneplus 7 will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-Core processor and Adreno 640 GPU.

The Maclaren Edition of OnePlus 6T, already have 10 GB Ram, 12 GB for the Oneplus 7 is highly likely for the top variant.

Considering Oneplus doesn’t want to be left behind in the specs race fuelled by Mi 9 Transparent edition (with 12 GB DDR4X Ram) and the Samsung S10 Plus (12 GB Ram).

It is going to run on the Android Pie with certain tweaks to the Oxygen OS. Google is going to keep the Android Q close to its heart and a USP for the upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.

OnePlus 7 5G

Oneplus is showcasing a 5G device at the MWC 2019, by the end of this month.

It is not clear if the Oneplus 7 will have the 5G capability for all the models or there will be a limited edition model like the Mi Mix 3 with 5G support.

5G is not coming to India for the next 2-3 years and will take its own sweet time to roll out.

So, I am not bothered much about it in 2019 when buying a phone. But somewhere in the middle of 2020 manufacturers will start pushing 5G supported phones.

We never know, all of the next iPhones may come with the 5G support.

So, that’s all for now, do let me know what you think about the upcoming Oneplus 7.

Launch Date and Price for OnePlus 7

The new Oneplus 7 will launch in May or June 2019 and we can expect a price of $550-$570 in the US and close to Rs. 38,000 in India.
