Oneplus has launched the new Oneplus 9RT in the Indian market and it is the successor to both Oneplus 9R.
The OnePlus 9R failed to impress as it came with the same hardware and cameras as the one-year-old Oneplus 8T. Let’s deep dive into the details, specifications, features, Pros, and Cons of the new Oneplus smartphone.
Oneplus 9RT – Price, Discounts, and Variants
The OnePlus 9RT will be available in three color options – Silver or Black.
It is available in 2 variants, here are the prices and details:
- 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB UFS 3.1 Storage – Price Rs. 42,990 or USD 574
- 12 GB LPDDR5 Ram and 256 GB UFS 3.1 Storage – Price Rs. 46,999 or USD 624
The smartphone will go on sale starting 17th January 2022 and competes against the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S21 Fe (5G) and the Xiaomi 11T Pro. There are discounts available (up to Rs. 4000 on exchange and Credit Card) when buying from Amazon and other stores. I have shared the link at the end to check them.
Key Specs and features for OnePlus 9RT:
The Oneplus 9RT looks the same as the Oneplus 9R. The front side has a 6.62-inch display with a punch-hole selfie camera. The panel is Samsung E4-AMOLED and comes with HDR10+ support and has a 120 Hz refresh rate, 1300 Nits Peak Brightness, 100% DCI: P3 color gamut.
At the back, there is a camera module that also is identical to the Oneplus 9R.
Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Octa-Core processor and Adreno 660 GPU. We know, the SD 888 tends to get hot while gaming; to reduce heat, the company is using a new Space Cooling Technology with a larger heat sink to keep the temperatures low.
The biggest upgrade for the Oneplus 9RT is the camera setup. As we know that the cameras on the affordable Oneplus Nord 2 are better than the Oneplus 9R, it makes sense for the brand to offer better cameras on the Oneplus 9RT.
For imaging, the OnePlus 9RT may come with a Triple rear camera module including a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera (With OIS and EIS Support, f/1.8 aperture), a 16MP Sony IMX481 ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP monochrome lens.
The primary 48MP camera on the Oneplus 9R is average and in my testing is even worse than many phones in the sub 25K price range. The addition of the Sony IMX 766 sensor helps justify the price tag for the Oneplus 9RT and offers a better photography experience to buyers.
Additionally, the phone comes with a 16MP Sony IMX471 camera for selfies and video calls. The selfie camera is decent on the 9RT but it is more than 3 generations old and has been used by the brand on several devices.
The 9RT has an in-display fingerprint scanner for quick unlocking and security. Also, there is support for Dual Sim 5G as well as 4G VOLTE.
There is an Alert Slider on the side to switch modes from normal to silent or vibrate only.
The Oneplus 9RT runs on the latest Color OS/Oxygen Os based on Android 11. It is a bit odd that the brand is not shipping it with Android 12.
The departure from the pure Oxygen Os is a sore point for many buyers who aspired to own a Oneplus device as it offered an excellent software experience. Oneplus is also promising 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates.
Oneplus says that they will be able to better test new features with the Color OS integration but I am sure it will also add the bloat in the code and features that probably will have some impact on the appeal of Oneplus devices.
Connectivity options – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth version 5.2, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0 port, and Dual Sim 5G as well as 4G VOLTE.
The phone weighs 198 grams and has a thickness of 8.29 mm. In my opinion, it is not too bulky but definitely won’t have a lightweight in-hand feel of older Oneplus phones.
Lastly, the Oneplus 9RT offers a 4500mAH capacity battery along with 65 Watts fast charging.
Pros and Cons
There is no IP68 rating or Wireless charging support on the premium Oneplus phone that you get on phones like Samsung S21 FE.
Overall, the Oneplus 9RT is a good addition and definitely improves the camera quality compared to the Oneplus 8T and OnePlus 9R. The pricing is also aggressive and the cameras are a lot better than what we have seen in the previous iterations.
