Oppo A71 (2018) AI Powered Affordable Phone
Today, Oppo has launched slightly updated version of the older Oppo A71, that they launched in Sept 2017. The smartphone is so far available in Pakistan for a price tag close to Rs. 11,800. Oppo may launch the device in India in the coming weeks. However, the company is yet to share any information.
In comparison to the older Oppo A71 that is available in India for Rs. 9,999, it offers some additional features.
For starters, it comes with Android Nougat OS 7.1 and also has the Oppo custom skin ColorOS 3.2 on top of Android to add some nifty features. The smartphone comes with a metallic surface finish and looks like the Oppo A57 or the Oppo A77. There is no change in terms of the design in comparison to the older A71.
Key Specs and Features OPPO A71 (2018)
For photography, it comes with a 13 Megapixel rear camera with PDAF, Flash, f/2.2 aperture to capture detailed images. The mobile offers a 5 Megapixel front selfie shooter with f/2.4 aperture.
It is surprising to see that Oppo has not launched this phone with a large Megapixel front selfie camera. To me, Oppo smartphones are synonymous to selfie smartphones. In fact, it is rare to find an Oppo phone which is not a selfie phone.
Furthermore, the A71 (2018) comes with AI beautification technology that applies most suitable beauty effects to your selfies.
The Oppo A71 comes with 5.2 Inch TFT display with HD resolution (1280*720) pixels and also has 2.5D curved glass coating. It comes with a standard 16:9 display with large bezels, unlike the voguish bezel-less phones.
Powering the A71 (2018) is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and the Adreno 506. Additionally, it comes with 2 GB Ram.
Notably, the older Oppo A71 uses the MediaTek 6750 Quad-Core processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and even has got 3 GB RAM. Tragically, Oppo has reduced the Ram from 3 GB to 2 GB in the newer model.
The Oppo A71 comes with just 16 GB of storage. However, you can expand the storage using a micro-sd card support upto 128 GB. Most mobiles in this price range offer at least 32 GB internal storage space.
Fueling the phone is a 3000 mAH capacity battery. The phone is sleek and measures 7.6 mm in thickness. Also, it is not bulky and weighs just 137 grams.
There was a time when smartphone makers were making phones as thin as 5mm and as light as 110 grams, but poor battery life and consumer feedback has made them switch strategy to necessarily add more battery and give up the sleek design approach.
The Oppo A71 comes with the standard connectivity options like Bluetooth, 4G LTE, VOLTE and WIFI support. Egregiously, Oppo is not using a fingerprint scanner in this mobile. However, it may come with a face unlock feature but not confirmed by Oppo at this point.
Oppo recently launched the A83 selfie phone in India, that too lacks a fingerprint reader.
In conclusion, it’s old wine with a new bottle cap, not even a new bottle. The phone looks way too expensive for the price and even lacks a large selfie camera.
