Oppo recently announced Find X – a phone with futuristic design, no bezels, and most interestingly stealth cameras that pop-up when you need to take photos.
Find X from Oppo costs Rs. 59,990 in the Indian market and will go on sale from 3rd August both online as well as offline. It is the first Oppo flagship phone launched in India that competes with the “creme de la creme.”
Notably, the Find X comes with a massive 256 GB storage and has 8 GB Ram.
The Samsung Galaxy S9+ with 128 GB storage and 6 GB ram is available for Rs. 68,900 whereas the Oneplus 6 with 256 GB storage and 8 GB Ram nets Rs. 43,999.
We will pitch the three phones to see how they hold up against each other. Let’s start with the design.
The design is one of the most important aspects of a flagship device, and all the three devices come out very well regarding their build quality.
Starting with the Find X, it offers a design which is quite similar to Galaxy S9+ from the front. It has an almost edge-to-edge screen and is differentiable from the S9+ since it comes with a retractable motorized front-facing camera panel.
All the three phones have a glass-aluminum body. The ergonomics of each phone give them a similar feel, as there is a large display fitted in compact bodies making for a nearly full-screen display.
One part about the design in which OnePlus 6 differs from the other two phones is its display notch. While the Find X has a retractable top panel and Galaxy S9+ has a thin top bezel, OnePlus has an iPhone X like notch.
All three devices have Corning Gorilla Glass for protecting the display from scratches. Additionally, the Galaxy S9+ is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. However, the other two phones are not water or dustproof.
Let’s have a look at the dimensions of each mobile.
Weight and thickness:
- Oppo Find X: 9.6 mm thick and weighs 186 grams.
- Galaxy S9+: 8.5mm thick and weighs 189 grams.
- OnePlus 6: 7.8mm thick and weighs 177 grams.
The Oppo Find X is thick and, on the other hand, the OnePlus 6 has a thin profile.
While buying a phone, a lot of people look for an outstanding display. Since the media consumption is on a rampage, a great screen is a must.
All the three phones offer some top of the line displays.
Starting with the Oppo Find X, it comes with a whopping 6.42-inch AMOLED display having a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 19.5:9 panoramic arc screen, as the company calls it.
The screen ratio in Oppo Find X is astounding and comes out to be 93.8% with a pixel density of 401 PPI.
Talking about the OnePlus 6, the phone boasts of an Optic AMOLED display having an FHD+ (1080 x 2280 pixels) resolution and a pixel density of 402 PPI. Notably, there is a notch on top of the display containing various sensors and the earpiece.
Also, the OnePlus 6’s display notch can be hidden by changing the option from the phone’s settings.
When we talk about the best displays in the phone market, Samsung arguably makes the best panels. The company carries on that legacy with its Galaxy S9+. The phone rocks a Super AMOLED panel measuring at 6.2 inches and has Quad HD+ (1440 x 2960 pixels) resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.
Also, the display of Galaxy S9+ is HDR10 compliant and has mind-blowing deeper blacks and bright colors pop-out due to the vivid screen and rich contrast ratio. Undoubtedly, there is no match for the S9+ when it comes to the display quality and experience.
Additionally, the display has an Always-on functionality, similar to previous Galaxy devices.
Processor, Performance, and Memory
The processor is the heart of a mobile device and is one of the most important aspects that make or break the deal.
Talking about Oppo Find X, the phone comes with newest and latest flagship CPU from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 845 – coupled with an Adreno 630 GPU to ensure blazing fast graphics performance. Additionally, the chipset is clocked at 2.8 GHz speed.
The phone packs a 3730 mAh battery and comes with the company’s VOOC Flash Charge technology which charges the phone quickly.
Whereas for storage department, the mobile has 256 GB of non-expandable internal storage along with whopping 8 GB of RAM.
Now about OnePlus 6, the phone has the same processor that powers the Oppo Find X. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8 GHz along with Adreno 630 GPU.
Memory wise, OnePlus 6 comes in 128 GB and 256 GB non-expandable storage options and 8 GB RAM in either variant.
The phone has a 3300 mAh non-removable battery and features proprietary Dash Charge for fast charging using a 20W adapter.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S9+ offers a different approach. In India, the phone packs an Exynos 9810 Octa-core 2.7 GHz chipset alongside a Mali-G72 MP18 GPU for enhanced gaming and graphics capabilities.
While the S9+ has an SD 845 processor just like the other two phones, for the US market, it ships with Exynos chipset and performs better apparently.
The Samsung Galaxy S9+ offers 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB internal storage options. Also, the memory is expandable up to 400 GB and come with 6 GB RAM for effortless multitasking.
The mobile gets power from a 3500 mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 2.0 support. Also, the phone supports Qi wireless charging depending upon the market.
|Samsung Galaxy S9+||3773||9024|
|Oppo Find X (expected)||2406||8931|
|Oppo Find X||270166|
|Samsung Galaxy S9+||235913|
Oppo Find X will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the company’s ColorOS 5.1 skin running on top. Similarly, the OnePlus 6 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with the custom Oxygen OS 5.1.8 skin on top.
Samsung Galaxy S9+ runs on Android Oreo 8.0 operating system along with the Samsung experience software. The OnePlus 6 is the smoothest of all, as it comes with near stock experience and has the least amount of bloatware. Also, the Oneplus device will get the Android P early, in comparison to the other two phones.
Camera And Photography
While these three phones come with up-to-date camera specifications and dual camera setups on paper, Oppo Find X does the things differently.
For imaging, the Oppo Find X comes with dual 16 MP (f/2.0) + 20 MP (f/2.2) rear camera setup with OIS on the primary lens, and a dual-tone dual LED flash. Whereas, it has a 25 MP (f/2.0) front-facing selfie camera.
Now, the exciting part is the retractable motorized panel on which the front and rear camera sit. When a user opens the camera app on the phone, the sliding panel moves up, hence exposing the cameras.
The motorized mechanism for the cameras is one of its kind and feels futuristic.
OnePlus 6, on the other hand, has a dual 16 MP (f/1.7) + 20 MP (f/1.7) main camera setup with gyro-EIS and OIS on the primary lens, along with dual LED flash. Also, the mobile has a 16 MP front-facing sensor with f/2.0 and Auto HDR for taking selfies.
Now the Samsung Galaxy S9+ – the phone which offers the best camera quality among the three phones pitched.
The S9+ boasts of a dual rear camera setup that comes with 12 MP (f1/5-2/4) + 12 MP (f/2.4) sensors and features OIS, 2x optical zoom, Dual Pixel PDAF and LED flash.
For videography, its camera records excellent and super-smooth 4K videos while having the ability to take 9 MP photos simultaneously. Not to mention, you can record incredible 960 fps slow-motion videos.
Its primary camera’s variable aperture is one of its biggest strengths. Its aperture ranges from an enormous aperture size for low-light photography to a smaller one suitable for landscaping.
The Find X, on the other hand, has cameras with smaller aperture value, which may not be as great as the S9+. Also, the OnePlus 6 is no match for the S9+.
Thoughts – Oppo Find X Vs. Samsung Galaxy S9+ Vs. OnePlus 6
Every phone compared above has its perks and downsides. While the Oppo Find X brings the futuristic motorized camera mechanism to the industry, Galaxy S9+ leads in its way by offering variable aperture, stunning low-light photographing capability, and an unmatched display.
Similarly, OnePlus offers amazing value with excellent specs for nearly half the price of its rivals. OnePlus 6 is blazing fast and has more RAM for better multitasking.
Also, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ with its bright Super AMOLED display offers amazingly deeper blacks and a vivid media consumption experience with excellent battery life.
In the end, it is the user who has to decide which phone to buy depending on the specific requirements needed according to the price range.
Definitely, I am tempted by the new super cool Oppo Find X, but it is difficult to ignore the Samsung S9+ in the similar price range. Personally, I will buy the S9+ for the camera and display.
