In May 2021, Sony launched the latest Playstation 5 in India. Since then the console has been in short supply and is only available during the occasional flash sales.
Mark Cerny(lead architect of the PlayStation console line) and his team took almost two years to develop the PS5 after the launch of PS4 to bring new advancements in the technology.
The PS5 comes in two models that include a digital edition and the second one is a disk design edition but no worry the specs and features of both editions are the same.
As the name suggests the disk edition comes with a hard drive.
Considering the Rise in PC hardware prices, the PS5 is a pretty good deal considering the price in India.
Price & Availability
This incredible gaming machine comes at a price tag of Rs 49,990 or $ 671 in India for the PS5 Console (With SSD Storage), the digital edition of the console is available for Rs. 10000 cheaper at Rs. 39,990.
The recent sale was on 26th July 2021 and we are expecting the next sale for the PS5 around 9th August 2021. You can check more details about the sales on the official PlayStation website.
You can buy it on various platforms such as Flipkart, Amazon, Sony Center, and many more platforms. However, the stocks are limited and it is pretty hard to get your hands on the latest Sony console at the moment.

Sony Launches PlayStation 4 Pro – Compatible Games, Features, and Specs
September 12, 2016 – Just when the tech industry was recovering from the news of the worlds most recognizable game character’s debut on the iPhone 7 or say mobiles, (that character is Mario in case you didn’t get it), – Sony was already with their own conference named “Playstation Meeting” and released not one but two new consoles named PS4-Slim and PS4-Pro, making this an amazing day for tech enthusiasts and Gamers.
PS 4 PRO
We will be going through all the details of what this new console is and what does this means for older PS4 users. Also, how does PS4-Slim fits into all this?
Yes. PlayStation users will finally be able to play their favorite games like Uncharted 4 and the Last of Us in 4K resolution. It is unclear whether PS4-Pro (codenamed PS4 Neo) is doing native 4K resolution or upscaling it to 4K. As our guesses go, we are pretty sure PS4-Pro is still not that powerful enough to run things natively at 4K, but still it is a ridiculously good jump from 1080p.
If you have followed our TV Buying Guide for India on Candytech, you would know how important the new 4K technologies like HDR and Dolby Vision are. Sony has pulled an amazing surprise here by adding HDR capabilities not just on the games that are running on PS4-Pro, but every old PS4 will get HDR support via a firmware update, which is nothing less than sorcery.
PS 4 PRO
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. Where normal televisions do not even compare to show the full range of colors that it needs to display, the HDR-enabled TV made it run the content in that increased range spectrum.
Note: Running an HDR-enabled PS4 / PS4Pro does not mean you get full HDR in your non-enabled TV.
Case 1 ) PS4_Pro + HDR_4K_TV = Console upscaled 4K resolution games with HDR
Case 2 ) PS4_Pro + 4K_TV = Console upscaled 4K games with marginal graphic/framerate upgrade with very slight HDR
Case 3 ) PS4_Pro + 1080p_TV = 1080p games with marginal graphic/framerate upgrade with very slight HDR
Case 4 ) PS4_HDR + 4K_HDR_TV = TV upscaled 4K games with marginal graphic/framerate upgrade with very very slight HDR
Case 5 ) PS4_HDR + 1080p_TV = Normal looking PS4 games like you play right now
Hope this clears some doubt, but now you know something more.
Play Older games in 4K with PS4-Pro
Here is a list of older games that will be patched to run on 4K with HDR on PS4 Pro. More games might be added but as of 8th September, this is the list.
- Uncharted 4
- The Last of Us
- Infamous: Second Son
- Infamous: First Light
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
- Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
- Elder Scrolls Online
- The Witness
- F1 2016
Note that every, and I repeat every game that is released after September will get a PS4-Pro mode automatically.
Any Game – Any Console
Put your crazy theories to rest now. Sony has clarified that every game that will come out in the future till the eventual end of the generation cycle with PS5, will run on every Sony console this gen.
That is, Any game once bought will be playable on PS4, PS4-Slim, and PS4-Pro.
Sony however is not calling the slim version a PS4-Slim. It is just named “PS4”, as Sony expects to phase out the previous PS4 model and replaces it with the slimmer and cheaper version.
PS4 Pro will play those same games but will take advantage of the extra power and HDR technology.
No 4K Blu Ray Drive
We don’t know what went into Sony’s head when making this decision. But so rumored “PS4K” will not have 4K Blu-ray Drive installed in it. We can take guesses, as the decision might be taken to lower the price of the console.
But the fact remains that Xbox One S, which is much cheaper than PS4-Pro and much much lighter and smaller looking than it, has HDR capability and a 4K Blu-ray Drive already installed in it. And there is every possibility that Xbox One Scorpio releasing next year with 6TeraFlop of power, which is much powerful than PS4-Pro will also have a 4K blu ray drive in it.
Seems like Sony has let go of the 4K blu ray drive market, and it won’t have a chance to compete back in this market till the next revision with PS5 many years from now.
Price, Performance, features, and Our take for Indian Audience
PS4: Buy it if you don’t want to stuck with the PS4Slim version which is reportedly a little uglier looking than the base PS4 model. Sony will soon stop making original PS4 designs.
Xbox One S: It’s smaller and lighter and costs significantly less than both PS4 and the PS4-Pro. It has HDR and a 4K blu-ray drive. If you are a gamer and like to buy blu-ray discs (which should be in minority), this console is a no-brainer buy.
PS4-Slim: A little uglier looking than PS4 for some, but if you don’t mind that, still wait a few months for the holiday as the build quality of the Slim version signifies the heavy discounts this model might have to go through once Diwali season comes. (299$-US. Indian prices not revealed yet)
It is a little bit silent than the Original PS4 and switching Hard drives is easier this time around. And there is free HDR support if you already have a 4K HDR TV.
PS4-Pro: It will cost you 399$-US Price. You can expect the same Indian price when the original PS4 came to India. As the generational leap in chip architecture will be coming at end of the year, we have no doubt whatsoever that Xbox One Scorpio releasing next year with Zen architecture and new Radeon cards will be much more powerful than PS4-Pro. However, we will be very surprised if Xbox One Scorpio managed to price it at 399$ given the early technology adoption clearly comes with a slightly more price.
It’s a tough decision, but if you can wait an entire year more to see what Xbox Scorpio has to offer then you can make a more informed decision. Just remember that new consoles like PS5 or XB2 will not come anytime before 2019.
