The new Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 are not about specs or high-end Snapdragon processors, they are about design, consumer experience, and looks.
The Samsung Galaxy A5
For starters, the A5 has a super AMOLED Screen measuring 5 inches with 1280*720 resolution. It looks elegant, is lightweight, weighs only 123 grams.
The chrome band around the edges make it look distinguishing from a pack mid-range phones. It has light metal body and feels very premium in hand.
Further, the A5 has Uni-body design which it borrows from it’s elder cousin Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Also, the mobile is one of the thinnest that Samsung has ever launched and measures only 6.7 mm. However, it is not as thin as the Gionee Elife S 5.1 or Oppo R5 which are close to 5 mm.
The screen is super AMOLED and despite the low resolution looks good with vivid slightly saturated colors, though nothing wrong with it. The AMOLED panel has a different color tone in comparison to the IPS displays which appear faded.
For photography, it has a 13 MP rear Camera which is good when taking daylight photographs. But the performance is not flawless in low light or quick auto-focus shots.
The rear camera has a little protruding part which may become prone to scratches if the back is rubbed against any hard surface.
The front camera is a 5 MP shooter which allows users to click selfies with the wide-angle camera lens. Moreover, the dual Sim device has a 16 GB internal storage expandable up to 64 GB using a micro SD card.
Additionally, there is Snapdragon 410 processor(Quadcore) with a max clock speed of 1.2 GHz and has 2GB RAM.
Notably, the mobile has 2300 mAH battery and even has the Samsung ultra battery saving mode.
Connectivity and Price
Here Samsung has done great with adding 4G capability along with the 3G connectivity for both phones.
Also, both run on Android KitKat and Samsung has given hints that they will get the Android Lolipop update soon.
The A5 is available for Rs. 25,500, that is a bag full of money to acquire this premium mid-range phone.
Samsung Galaxy A3
The smartphone is a smaller version of Galaxy A5, with same looks and uni-body all metallic design. The smartphone has a 4.5-inch screen size and has 960*540 resolution.
Moreover, it is available for Rs. 20,500, which is a premium price the company is asking for the superior build quality and looks.
Also, the A3 has the same Snapdragon 410 1.2 GHz Quadcore processor that A5 uses but comes with 1 GB RAM. The A3 weighs even less, only 110 grams, and is really portable and easy to use. It borrows the same Super AMOLED Display from it’s elder cousin.
However, it is slightly thicker with 6.9 mm thickness.
Notably, Both phones were launched in October 2014 but due to supply issues never reached the market. They will start shipping after 12 Jan 2015 in the Indian market and are focused towards youth intending to buy Slim & Sexy mobiles.

Verdict – Preview Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 Premium Price & Build
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 both look fantastic and are pretty easy to hold and use. The smartphones are metallic and a break away from the traditional Samsung plastic design mobiles.
The chrome plated edges make the smartphone look elegant & they can make your neighbor envy your new purchase. Smartphones have decent specs and camera and more importantly the build quality which you will not find in any Chinese mobile.
Nevertheless, they are a worthy purchase if some discounts are offered on the current prices. Where Samsung is faltering is the pricing of these devices and lack of beefy hardware specs that competition is offering in 30-50% cheaper rate in India.
Can Samsung Demand Such Premium in the Indian Market for Superior Build Quality and Brand Name without adding Powerful Hardware is what Samsung India should brainstorm?
Lastly, consumers made Motorola Moto G available at 12k or Xiaomi Mi 3 for 13k very popular in 2014. The Indian consumers are price conscious and Samsung will soon learn that to succeed in Indian market they will have to offer affordable phones like Motorola.
