Samsung has launched two new smartphones to strengthen its ailing market share in India and other countries. Notably the new Smartphones are extension to Galaxy Alpha that Samsung launched few months back. The new Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 is not about specs or high end snapdragon processors, they are about design, consumer experience and looks.
The Samsung Galaxy A5
The smartphone has a super Amoled Screen measuring 5 inch with 1280*720 resolution. The Smartphone looks elegant, is very light in weight & weighs only 123 grams. The chrome band around the edges make it look distinguishing from a pack of same price range smartphones. It has light metal body and feels very premium in hand. The light weight and design makes the smartphones pretty easy to use for calling, Texting/surfing.
The A5 has Uni-body design which it borrows from it’s elder cousin Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The smartphone is also one of the thinnest that Samsung has ever launched and measures only 6.7 mm. Of course it is not as thin as the Gionee Elife S 5.1 or Oppo R5 which are close to 5 mm.
The screen is super Amoled and despite the low resolution looks good with vivid little saturated colors display, though nothing wrong with it. The Amoled Screen has a different color tone when we compare the same to the IPS displays, which appear fade in comparison.
The Smartphone has 13 MP rear Camera which is good when taking daylight photographs but performance is not grand in low light or quick auto-focus shots. The rear camera has a little protruding part which may become prone to scratches if the back is rubbed against hard surface.
The front camera is a 5 MP shooter which allow users to click selfies with the wide angle camera that Samsung is using in A5 and A3. The dual Sim Smartphone has a 16 GB internal storage which could be expanded to 64 GB using a micro SD card.
The smartphone has Snapdragon 410 processor(Quadcore) clocked at 1.2 Ghz and has 2GB RAM. The Galaxy A5 has 2300 mAH battery and also has the Samsung ultra battery saving mode.
Connectivity – Here Samsung has done great with adding 4G capability along with the 3G connectivity for both Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 smartphones. Both the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 runs on Android Kitkat and Samsung has given hints that they will get the Android Lolipop update soon.
The smartphone is priced at Rs. 25,500 that is a bag full of money to acquire this premium Samsung smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy A3
The smartphone is a smaller version of Galaxy A5, with same looks and uni-body all metallic design. The smartphone has 4.5 inch screen size and has 960*540 resolution. The Samsung Galaxy A3 is priced at Rs. 20,500, which is a premium price Samsung is asking for the superior build quality and looks.
The Samsung Galaxy A3 also has the same Snapdragon 410 1.2 Ghz Quadcore processor that A5 uses but with 1 GB RAM. The Samsung galaxy A3 weighs even less only 110 grams and is really portable and easy to use. It borrows the same Super Amoled Display from it’s elder cousin.
It is slightly thicker with 6.9 mm thickness. Both the Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 were launched in October 2014 but due to supply issues never reached the market. The smartphone will hit the retailer shelves after 12 Jan 2015 in the Indian market and are focused towards youth intending to buy Slim & Sexy Smartphones.

The chrome plated edges make the smartphone look elegant & they can make your neighbor envy your new purchase. They are worthy purchase provided some discounts are offered on the current prices. Where Samsung is faltering is the pricing of these smartphone and lack of the beefy hardware specs that competition is offering in 30-50% cheaper smartphones in India.
