Qualcomm’s latest product Snapdragon 835 processor is the flagship processor you can have on your next smartphone. It is the world’s fastest mobile processor and offers incredible performance and power efficiency. But how fast is a Snapdragon 835 compared to the Snapdragon 821 or 820, let’s find out?
No doubt that everyone who loves performance also loves Snapdragon processors. Though Mediatek is a key rival to Qualcomm, it does not offer the level of performance at par with the Qualcomm flagship products.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is used in several smartphones – like ZTE Z17, Samsung S8 and S8+, Oneplus 5, Xiaomi Mi6 and HTC U11.
The Snapdragon 835 is 35% smaller and consumes 25% lesser power to run. This means, with only 5 minutes of charging, you will be able to use the device for 5 hours. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor has 8 custom Kryo 280 cores in two clusters, working at 2.35 and 1.9 GHz.
The Snapdragon 835 is the first-ever processor to be made with 10 Nm process. Adreno 540 accompanies the Snapdragon 835, processor and promises a 25% boost in graphics performance when compared to the Adreno 530.
The first phones to come with the processor are Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, and most of the flagship phones in 2017 will be powered by the Snapdragon 835. We may see a Snapdragon 836 as well if rumors are to be believed which can power phones like Samsung Note 8 and Google Pixel 2.
While the next true flagship processor from Qualcomm will be the Snapdragon 845, which will release in early 2018 and will likely power the Samsung S9 and LG G7.
The SD 835 offers support for 32 MP camera lens and images can be captured with zero shutter lag using its Image signal processor. It supports the latest standard of X16 LTE and peak download speed can reach 1 GBPS.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 also comes with Quick Charge 4.0 and 4.0 Plus support which offers even faster charging time for smartphones compared to the previous generation Quick Charge 3.0. ZTE Nubia Z17 is the first smartphone to offer QC 4.0+ and promises 0-50% charging in just 25 minutes.
The best uploading speed will be 150 MBPS and the audio along with the video is now 3D for the greatest VR experience. The other advantage of the Snapdragon 835 is its support for Bluetooth 5.0 as well as LPDDR4 dual-channel Ram.
The smaller size gives room for improving battery life and also optimizing the size and thickness of the device. Snapdragon 835 is the successor of Snapdragon 821 and Snapdragon 820 and offers a significant boost in performance.

There is a good performance increase across different benchmarks for the Snapdragon 835 powered smartphones and also we can expect these benchmark scores to improve with more phones like the OnePlus 5 and the ZTE Nubia Z17 which offer 6 GB ram and 8 GB RAM respectively, compared to the 4 GB RAM on the Samsung S8+.
Is it worth the upgrade considering you have a Snapdragon 820 or 821 device, I frankly think in terms of processing ou won’t notice any difference in the real-world tasks. The new phones come with better display and camera and battery life upgrades which can be an advantage.
Qualcomm has recently launched the next-generation flagship processor – Snapdragon 845 for future smartphones.
