Specs – RealME U1
The Realme U1 is powered by the new Mediatek Helio P70 Processor. In fact, it is the first phone in the world to use the Helio P70 Processor.
Notably, the Realme 1 came with the Helio P60 Processor and it was a blazing fast device.
The Helio P70 is also based on the 12 Nm manufacturing process and comes with a 2.1 GHz clock speed.
Additionally, there is Arm Mali-G72 GPU that offers upto 7% faster performance in comparison to the Helio P60.
Also, MediaTek claims that the processor uses up to 30% less power in comparison to its predecessor.
The RealME U1 comes with great gaming performance and also is excellent for day to day tasks.
The phone can easily run modern titles such as PUBG, Asphalt 9. But you cannot play Fortnite on this device. The game only runs on very few flagship devices.
The phone comes with an impressive 25 Megapixel front selfie camera that uses the high-end Sony IMX 576 sensor and comes with f/2.0 aperture. The camera comes with a large 1.8-micron pixel sensor, Multi-Frame Noise reduction and even has pixel binning technology.
Realme has said the front camera performance will improve with future software updates.
The front camera comes with AI portrait mode and has the super Vivid mode support also. The super vivid mode that we have also tested on the Oppo F9 Pro makes your images slightly more saturated.
The camera is decent for daylight imaging but struggles at night.
The phone comes with Dual rear cameras 13MP + 2MP which offers you the ability to click images in the portrait mode. The camera App comes with several options such as portrait mode, super vivid and HDR.
The camera can take a good daylight image but struggles at night and when making videos.
Also, the phone lacks 4K video recording as well as support for EIS. The rear camera can record 1080P videos which are not very smooth due to lack of stabilization. The camera can shoot slow-motion videos at 90FPS.
If you wish to click close up shots or images in daylight the camera serves the purpose well.
Display and Design
The Realme U1 looks similar to the Realme 2 Pro and comes with a glossy polycarbonate finish. The back side houses Dual rear cameras and a fingerprint scanner.
The front side has the waterdrop notch design that is becoming common in the phones launched by BBK electronics brands. The Realme U1 comes with a decent 6.3 Inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) display that offers 401 PPI pixel density.
Additionally, the display offers 1500:1 contrast and a maximum brightness of 450 nits for better outdoor legibility.
The tiny notch display offers incredible 90.8% screen to body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and has 2.5D curved glass, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
OS, Battery Capacity and Other Features
The Realme U1 comes with the Color OS version 5.2 and has Android Oreo 8.1 as the base OS.
The brand has faced criticism in the past for using the Color Os which is slow and has several nuances. However, it is unlikely that realme will develop a custom skin like the OnePlus Oxygen OS in the future.
However, the brand shared that they have solved the issue of double swipe for notification dismissal issue with the latest software patch.
Further, the device comes with a 3500 mAH capacity battery similar to the Realme 2 Pro.
There is no fast charging support and the phone comes with 10 Watts charger. However, it is still better than some of the bundled 5 Watt chargers.
The phone has 8 mm thickness and weighs 168 grams which are not too high. Connectivity options include Dual Sim support, 4G VOLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, USB OTG, and micro-USB port support.
The phone doesn’t come with the USB type C port which is found on some of the budget devices. Aforementioned, there is either 32 GB or 64 GB storage option, expandable using a dedicated micro-sd card upto 256 GB.
Fingerprint Scanner and Face Unlock
The phone comes with quick face unlocking feature that Realme claims unlock the device in 0.1 seconds. Also, at the back, there is a fingerprint scanner which can unlock it quickly.
There is no dedicated IR sensor for face unlocking in the low light conditions. The phone uses the screen brightness compensation to illuminate your face and unlock the device in low light.

Should You Buy the Realme U1 or consider Other devices?
The new Realme U1 comes with several positives and has an impressive selfie camera and Helio P70.
However, if we compare it the Realme 2 Pro, apart from a slight advantage on the selfie camera front there is not much difference. The SD 660 performs as well as the P70 in the day to day performance and games.
