Key Specs and Details

Performance

The Realme X50 Pro 5G is a true speed monster and comes with unmatched performance.

Aforementioned, the biggest highlight of the Realme X50 Pro 5G is the presence of a flagship processor – SD 865.

The SD 865 offers up to 25% faster performance for both CPU and GPU over the last iteration. Further, the processor is about 20% more energy-efficient, so we will get better battery life.

Realme shared that it scored over 600,000 on the Antutu benchmark, which is an incredible performance. Also, the mobile comes with Vapour Chamber Cooling to ensure that it runs cooler even when playing high graphics games like PUBG and Fortnite.

Realme-X50-PRO-5G
Realme-X50-PRO-5G

You can buy the Realme X50 Pro with upto 12 GB of LPDDR5 Ram. Notably, the LPDDR5 is about 15% faster in comparison to the LPDDR4 ram that is used in almost all modern phones.

This is also a big boost in terms of performance. If that was not enough, the company offers a faster UFS 3.0 storage that comes from Samsung and is one of the fastest storage on any mobile.

There is 128 GB or 256 GB storage space available on the device depending on the model.

Design and Display

The phone comes with a near bezel-less display with dual cut out cameras. Further, the phone comes in 2 color options – a subtle Red and Green. The phone is made of glass and metal and has a large 6.44 inch Super AMOLED display made by Samsung.

The display has a 2400*1080 pixels resolution and 408 PPi and 20:9 aspect ratio.  Also, there is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 support for protection and it comes with features such as DC Dimming, HDR10, 90 Hz panel and up to 1000 nits maximum brightness.

Furthermore, it comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner that offers a quick unlocking experience.

Cameras

Realme has added as many cameras as you may probably want to have on mobile. At the front, we have got a 32 MP (Sony IMX 616) primary camera and an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera. It is one of the best selfie camera sensors that you can get currently.

The rear side sports 4 cameras: 64 MP (Samsung Isocell GW1, f/1.8) Primary Camera, 12 MP telephoto lens, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2 MP depth sensor. The phone comes with 4K, 30 FPS, no 60 FPS mode and no OIS.

It is not an ideal phone for shooting stable videos that you may get from a Samsung or Apple high-end mobile.

The camera comes with a 5X hybrid and 20x digital zoom feature and also the company has announced a new improved night mode.

Battery, OS, and Connectivity

The Realme X50 Pro 5G comes with a 4200 mAH capacity dual battery and has a 65 Watts Fast Charging (bundled with Realme Dart Charger) capability.

The device can charge from 0 to 100% in about 35 minutes which is really impressive.

The Realme X50 Pro 5G runs on the latest Android 10 OS along with the custom Realme skin on the top.

The Phone comes with 4G/5G support and has Dual Volte, Dual Sim, USB Type C port. The X50 Pro 5G boasts of a total of 13 antennas, out of which 8 antennas are present for 5G and 4G connectivity.

Also, it supports the latest WIFI 6 for high speed and low latency WIFI data connectivity. Lastly, the phone comes with superior sound (dual speakers) and has Dolby Atmos support.

The mobile is thick and measures 9 mm in thickness but still doesn’t come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Conclusion

The Realme X50 Pro 5G is the most exciting mobile in the market and will entice performance enthusiasts.

It is faster than anything you can currently buy, comes with top of the line specs. There is not much to dislike as far as the specs and even the price goes. We can’t expect an SD 865 phone for 30-35k at this stage.

They have launched in 2 colors – red and green. I am not a fan of both these colors, a more subtle grey or black or even white would have been better. Maybe they will add more color choices later.

Also, as we know there is no 5G network in India and it will take at least 2-3 years for the financially stressed telecom companies to deploy it.

There is no real benefit of 5G for buyers for the next couple of years and till that time these 5G phones will be nearly obsolete.

Even Samsung has not launched the 5G S20 series in India (they are not using the SD 865 for India nor does the Exynos Processor comes with a 5G modem).

The Snapdragon 855 Plus is an excellent processor and is available in cheaper options like Realme X2 Pro.

If you are looking for unmatched performance the Realme X50 Pro 5G is a great choice (don’t buy due to the 5G hype), else there are several good options in the 25k to 40k price range.

The Spider-man edition and the Naoto Fukasawa Edition will go on sale in 2019.

Frankly, I am not liking the launch of new phones which are made for China, with odd naming and design.

Probably, these will not work in India. Also, considering that there is no 6 GB Ram version, this is a bummer from Realme. A lot of fans would have loved a 6 GB Ram and 64 GB storage and 6 GB Ram/ 128 GB storage option than the options provided.

Moreover, buying an 8 GB Ram phone with an SD 710 is pure stupidity. It is a mid-range processor and additional ram is not going to help. A 6 GB ram variant would have been ideal.

Nevertheless, let’s have a look at the specifications and features for the Realme X.

Realme X Key Specifications

The Realme X comes with loaded specs, and as you read above with very affordable pricing. The phone boasts of a 6.53 inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ Display (2340*1080).

Further, it has an impressive 91.2% screen to body ratio and has 19.5:9 aspect ratio, with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Also, there is an in-display fingerprint scanner similar to the recently launched Oneplus 7.

Realme-X-image-1

The Dual sim device runs on the Color OS 6.0 and has the Android Pie update.

Powering the device is the 10 Nm Octa-Core Snapdragon 710 processor and the Adreno 616 GPU.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 is slower when compared to the Kirin 810 (Honor 9X) or even the Snapdragon 730 on both Antutu as well as GeekBenchmark.

The processor is similar to the Realme 3 Pro which was launched in India and is capable of playing PUBG and Fortnite.

The phone comes with a 48 Megapixel primary rear camera (Sony IMX586 sensor) with f/1.7 aperture and has a secondary sensor with 5 MP resolution with f/2.4 aperture.

For selfies, we have a POP-Up camera with a 16 Megapixel lens and a Sony IMX 471 sensors with f/2.0 aperture.

Additionally, it comes with all-day battery life (3765 mAH capacity battery) with support for Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging.

Further, there is USB Type C Port, headphone jack, Dolby Atmos support, 4G VOLTE and Bluetooth 5.0.

The phone is a bit bulky and has a 9.4mm thickness and has 191-grams weight.

Realme-X-image-1

The Realme X is an affordable Oneplus 7 Pro as there are a lot of similarities between the two. The sensors on both the primary rear camera and the front camera are the same.

However, there are some differences in the lenses used by Oneplus and Realme. Further, both come with the in-display scanner and even has the pop-up selfie mechanism.

The display is also Super AMOLED on the Realme X which is fairly impressive for the price range.

We already have the Realme 3 Pro and the Realme X will sit above the 3 Pro in the portfolio.

Hardware-wise it is a great phone the only low point is the Color OS which a lot of people despise.

The new Realme X comes with the superior camera setup, better full view AMOLED display making it a better device than both the Redmi Note 7 Pro as well as the Realme 3 Pro.

Pros – Realme X

  1. 6.53 inch Full View (no-notch) Super AMOLED Display With Gorilla Glass 5.
  2. In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
  3. Superior Dual Rear Cameras Sony IMX 586
  4. 16 MP Pop-up Selfie Camera
  5. Latest OS and Software
  6. Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Octa-Core

Cons – Realme X

If we consider the Realme X in isolation, it is a great phone and the price is also very aggressive. But considering phones like the Redmi K20 (SD 730) or even the Vivo Z1 Pro (SD 712), the processor is slower.

A lot of fans were expecting it to come with the Snapdragon 730 instead of SD 710.

Thirdly, why there is no 6 GB ram version, this processor is made to work best with either 4 or 6 GB ram. There was no need for an 8 GB Ram version.

Lastly, I forgot to mention that it comes with a hybrid-sim slot instead of a dedicated micro-sd sim card slot, a deal-breaker for some fans.

Overall – Buying Advice

The Realme X looks good and is certainly a great product to purchase. There are two good phones coming from Xiaomi (Mi A3 and the Redmi K20) that I would like to wait and see before buying the Realme X.
