Xiaomi has launched its new phone – Redmi 6 Pro – in China on Monday, 25th June 2018. Notably, the mobile is the bigger sibling of the Redmi 6 and comes with a notch at the top of its display.
Xiaomi is launching too many phones these days and it is even becoming difficult for hard-core Xiaomi fans to keep track of what the company is launching. Recently, the brand launched, Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi Y2 and the Redmi S2.
Let’s take a look at top features of Redmi 6 Pro that stand out.
Taking the design cues from Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi 6 Pro has a build strikingly similar to the high selling phone.
It has a metallic frame, along with a rear dual-camera setup with a fingerprint reader sitting just below it. The main visible difference that Redmi 6 Pro possess is its display notch. Notably, the Redmi Note 5 Pro doesn’t come with a notch display and has 18:9 aspect ratio.
The Redmi 6 Pro feels like a perfect iPhone X clone, whether we talk about the profiling of its display or if a glance at its rear panel.
- Size: 149.33 x 71.68 x 8.75mm
- Weight: 178 grams
It doesn’t seem too heavy or thick considering it comes with a massive battery.
The IPS LCD display of Redmi Note 6 Pro measures at 5.84 inches diagonally, and comes with an FHD+ (1080 x 2280 pixels) and has a 19:9 aspect ratio at a pixel density of 432 PPI.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has opted to employ a notch on top of the phone’s display but the notch is relatively smaller in comparison to the Apple flagship and takes lesser screen space. The obsession with Full Vision display for phones is pushing the manufacturers to launch phones like the Oppo Find X.
The Redmi 6 Pro comes with a highly capable and efficient processor on board. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset having a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. Notably, the Snapdragon 625 is now more than 2 years old and Xiaomi has used in several phones previously.
The processor is coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU for running latest Games and doing graphics-intensive tasks.
Memory and Storage
The RAM and storage capacity of a phone plays a vital role in a phone’s day-to-day performance. The Redmi 6 Pro has plenty of both.
The phone comes in 3 variants: basic 3 GB RAM with 32GB internal storage, 4GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, and last highest version with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.
Most probably, the AI cameras on Redmi 6 Pro are its most eye-catching feature. In a time when almost every other phone is coming with dual-camera setups, Redmi 6 Pro doesn’t want to break the norms.
The phones come with a dual-camera rear setup with a 12MP + 5MP module and have a f/2.2 aperture value. Talking about its front camera, the mobile is equipped with a 5MP front shooter.
Importantly, Redmi 6 Pro has an AI Portrait mode, that too for both front and rear camera modules. Additionally, it even has Face Unlock feature based on AI.
Further, the phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and has MIUI 9.5 skin on top it. The mobile will be upgradable to the upcoming MIUI 10 skin, utilizing the newer feature set but it is sad that Xiaomi is shipping it without the new OS, out of the box.
Next, the Redmi 6 Pro being a large phone with a high-resolution display, has to offer a large battery. Hence, the phone packs a massive 4000mAh battery along with the support for fast charging using 5V/2A adapter.
Lastly, it comes with various connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS etc. Whereas, it has an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, an infrared sensor, proximity sensor, digital compass, and gyroscope.
For wired connectivity, there is a micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack too.
The mobile is launched in China but we are expecting Xiami to launch it in India may be in 2-3 months:
- 32 GB storage + 3GB RAM – CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,400)
- 32 GB storage + 4GB RAM – CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs. 12,500)
- 64 GB storage + 4GB RAM – CNY 1,299 (approx. Rs. 13,600)
All in all, Redmi 6 Pro sits well between the Redmi Note 5 and its bigger brother Redmi Note 5 Pro. The phone ticks all the checks needed to make it a worthy rival in the already-flooded market. What are your thoughts about the new Redmi 6 Pro, Please share in the comments below…
