Key Specs and Details for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 PRO

For starters, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with an improved 6.26 Inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and has FHD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Also it comes with a wide notch at the top.

Further, the display has an 81% screen to body ratio and comes with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display comes with 84% color gamut and has 500 nits maximum brightness, outdoor legibility is good.

The notch is huge and houses 2 front cameras, which are the key highlight for this new Xiaomi blockbuster.  The phone has a similar metallic design as the predecessor and is quite sturdy and robust.

The rear cameras are vertically aligned at the back, and there is even a fingerprint scanner for faster unlocking.

The bottom chin at the front is noticeable and is not as narrow as some of the more expensive rivals such as Zenfone 5Z or Oneplus 6T.

Nevertheless, the display looks modern and if you are into notch displays you may end up liking it.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with the Dual Rear Cameras similar to the predecessor RN5 Pro. There is a 12 MP Dual Pixel lens, made by Samsung, at the back. It comes with a f/1.9 aperture and has a large 1.4-micron pixel size.

The secondary camera in the assembly has 5 Megapixel resolution and comes with f/2.0 aperture.

The camera supports Face recognition, HDR, AI portrait mode and even comes with some fancy portrait backlight modes. Unfortunately, the camera lacks 4K video recording support. The maximum resolution is 1080P @ 30FPS for the device.

Also, it comes with the Electronic Image Stabilization support but lacks OIS.

On the other hand, at the front, we have 2 cameras – 20 MP + 2 MP. The primary camera comes with a massive 1.8-micron lens that can click detailed selfies in all lighting conditions.

Also, Xiaomi is boasting about the new AI scene detection for the rear cameras that can detect 12 different categories of scenes.

Also, you can adjust the amount of background blur when clicking images in the portrait mode. In a nutshell, both the rear and the front camera is improved in comparison to the RN5 Pro.

In fact, the RN5 Pro had a very good camera and the Note 6 Pro takes things to the next level.

Hope what I have said above for the camera, I could say for the performance.

There is a huge number of Xiaomi fans who wanted a Snapdragon 660 or even the Snapdragon 710 in this phone but they are disappointed.

Redmi Note 6 PRO A Worthy Upgrade? Gaming, Cameras, Performance Better than Realme 2 Pro?

Same as the predecessor, the Note 6 Pro runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-Core Processor along with the Adreno 509 GPU.

There is nothing wrong with the SD 636 but with the next-gen phone, we wanted better performance to play PUBG and Asphalt 9.

I have played games on several phones running on Snapdragon 636 and Snapdragon 660. There is a slight performance difference with the SD 660 as it comes with a slightly better Adreno 512 GPU and even has better single core performance.

Anyways, we can still easily play PUBG on balanced settings and the Asphalt 9 without having any issues. You may get occasional frame drops but the overall experience is good.

Benchmark Scores

  • Antutu Score – 114,455
  • GeekBench Mark Single-Core – 1333
  • GeekBench Mark Multi-Core – 4845

Battery Life

The Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with 4000 mAH capacity battery that is sufficient to easily last all day with heavy usage.

Another good thing is that Xiaomi is offering support for Quick Charge (3.0) to ensure the phone can be charged swiftly.

However, Xiaomi is not bundling the fast charger with the phone.

OS and Other Features

The Note 6 Pro comes with the new MIUI 10 ROM from Xiaomi along with the Android Oreo 8.1. There are several improvements in the MIUI 10, biggest is the 30% faster App opening speed and improved battery life.

However, the MIUI 10 also will show you ads in the Xiaomi Apps which is another drawback for the UI.

We still have the 3.5mm headphone jack which Xiaomi emphasized in the presentation. (Can someone ask them why they removed it on the MIA2? a really stupid decision in my humble opinion).

Furthermore, the phone comes with hybrid Sim slots and has support for Dual VOLTE. Just to emphasize you can’t use a micro-sd card along with 2 sim cards on this device.

Lastly, there is 2.4 GHz/5.0 GHz support and it comes with the Bluetooth Version 5.0.

Should You Upgrade to the New Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro

The phone comes with a mixed bag of feelings for fans as there are some upgrades, and some of the specs are borrowed from the predecessor.

To recap, the original Redmi Note 3 was a superb phone and came with powerful Snapdragon 650.

The RN4 came with a less powerful SD 625 Processor. Further, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro with a much faster Snapdragon 636 Processor and improved cameras.

Unfortunately, the new Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with the same Snapdragon 636.

The camera and display are definitely upgraded in the new phone but it lacks the USB Type C Port and even doesn’t have a dedicated micro-sd card slot.

If you are using a Redmi Note 3 or Note 4, it is definitely a good upgrade but doesn’t feel like an upgrade for Note 5 Pro users.

If I am using the Note 5 Pro, will wait for the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Undoubtedly, both Realme 2 Pro and the Redmi Note 6 Pro offer great value for money to the buyers. If you want better cameras and battery life, and like the MIUI experience can opt for the Redmi Note 6 Pro.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a better waterdrop notch display and slightly faster gaming performance – the Realme 2 Pro is your top choice.

If you use your phone mostly to click pictures and share on social media – the Redmi Note 6 Pro is a better choice any day.

On the other hand, if you read articles or watch a lot of videos and want a better display Realme offers a slightly better experience.

For gaming, the SD 660 offers slightly better frame rates but the battery is lower on the Realme 2 Pro. If you want a slightly faster phone can get the Realme 2 Pro.

Also, Xiaomi is planning to launch the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro soon, you may want to read about them before buying the Note 6 Pro.
