Update – 10-Nov-2018 – We got the Samsung Galaxy On6 from Flipkart’s first sale and I am testing it for the last 3 days. Here is the first impressions and hands-on review video for the Samsung Galaxy On6.
Date – 2/July/2018
Samsung has launched the new Galaxy On6 mobile today on the e-commerce portal Flipkart for Rs. 14,490. The phone looks quite similar to the Samsung J6 which was launched a couple of weeks back and comes with same specs as the J6 at a slightly affordable price.
The Samsung J6 is meant for both the online and offline market, on the other hand, the On6 is exclusive to Flipkart. The mobile competes with rivals such as Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Honor 7X, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Oppo’s RealME 1.
Samsung Galaxy On6
The Samsung On6 will come in either the blue or the black color option and offers only 64 GB storage and 4 GB ram. There are no other variants launched by the company. In fact, it is the same as the Samsung J6 which is available in the similar configuration for Rs. 16,490.
Frankly, we were expecting a new phone from Samsung, but it is disappointing to see a rebranded device. There is a lot of hype created by the brand on social media channels using the new brand ambassador Tiger Shroff.
In the end, there is nothing new by Samsung, but on the bright side, you can save some money if you buy the Samsung On6 in place of Samsung J6. The Samsung J6 with 64 GB storage and 4 GB ram costs Rs. 2000 more.
Notably, the phone starts selling from 5th July 2018 and is available exclusively on Flipkart.
Key Specs and Details for Samsung On6
The Samsung On6 comes with the 5.6 Inch HD+ Display (1480*720) and has a Super AMOLED Panel with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Further, there is 2.5 D curved glass coating and the display offers good contrast ratios in comparison to the standard LCD panels.
The phone comes with polycarbonate build and has a front flash and a fingerprint scanner at the back. The design is generic and is the same as the J8 or J6.
Powering the device is the mediocre Samsung Exynos 7870 Octa-Core processor that comes along with the ARM Mali T830 MP1 GPU. The performance for the Exynos 7870 is similar in comparison to the Snapdragon 450 used by Samsung in the Samsung J8, and you can read the comparison here – Samsung Galaxy J8 Vs. J6 Vs. A6 – Latest Samsung Mid-Range Phones Comparison.
On the Antutu benchmark the Exynos 7870 scores only 61,400 which is slightly lower in comparison to Snapdragon 625 (used in Redmi Y2 or Redmi Note 5) that scores 67,380.
The overall user experience for the device is smooth and it manages to run many apps simultaneously.
Aforementioned, there is 4 GB ram and 64 GB internal storage that is user expandable. The Dual Sim phone comes with a dedicated micro-sd card slot, and you can use two sim cards along with a micro-sd card simultaneously.
OS and Camera
There is a Samsung Experience 9 software and Android Oreo 8.0 to make the user experience better. Also, there are many cool apps such as the Samsung S Health that allows you to track steps count and your activity level.
Also, you can download and install the live wallpapers from the Samsung themes. If you like to edit videos or make small video clips of your personal moments there is a special Samsung video editor which is quite intuitive (need to download from My Galaxy Store, for free).
For photography, it comes with a Single 13 Megapixel rear camera with a F/1.9 aperture along with an LED Flash. To take clear selfies, there is an 8 MP front shooter with f/1.9 aperture and comes with a dedicated flash and beauty mode.
Notably, the phone comes with a trendy face unlocking feature and even has an oval-shaped fingerprint scanner. Also, there is a chat over video feature that allows you to do a messenger/ WhatsApp chat while watching videos.
Lastly, it has a 3000 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to last all day. The phone comes with a 5V/1A charger and doesn’t have fast charging support.
