New Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime Offers 13MP Selfie Camera, 3 GB Ram

Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime an Amazon Exclusive Product

Updated – 19/Jan/2018 – Samsung is launching back-to-back new phones to beat the rivals. A couple of days back Amazon India posted a new teaser for the imminent launch of a new Samsung On Series phone. It transpires to be the new Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime.

Samsung has finally shared the price for the phone, Rs. 12,990. The smartphone was unveiled at an event held in Gurugram on Wednesday. Moreover, it will go on sale from 20th Jan exclusively on Amazon.

Aforementioned, the price for the 32 GB / 3 GB Ram version is Rs. 12,990. On the other hand, the 64 GB / 4 GB ram variant will set you back by Rs. 14,990.

Let’s have a look at what On7 Prime has to offer.

Key Specs and Features Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime

For starters, the Samsung On7 prime is a replica of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime, available on Flipkart for Rs. 13,990. The On7 Prime comes with an identical metal unibody design with a front home button mounted fingerprint scanner. Also, the back side has a similar square camera.

It comes with almost similar design and specs as the J7 Prime but with a new name. Noticeably, the profound change is an addition of a 13-megapixel front selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture. Also, the rear camera comes with 13 MP lens and f/1.9 aperture with LED Flash. However, there is no front selfie flash.

Further, the phone is available in 32 GB / 64 GB storage versions with 3 GB / 4 GB Ram. Additionally, the storage is expandable upto 256 GB using the hybrid micro-sd card slot. Powering the On7 Prime is the Exynos 7870 Octa-Core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.6 GHz.

The display has a 5.5-inch size and comes with Full HD (1920*1080 pixels) resolution. Further to my dismay, it most likely comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0 as per the news. Even the Samsung UAE website that has listed the phone categorically forgets to inform about the OS version. (Moreover, Amazon India listing keeps things under wraps).

Additionally, it comes with standard connectivity options like Dual-sim, 4G, micro-USB, WIFI and Bluetooth 4.1.

Samsung Pay and Samsung Mall

The new Samsung On7 Prime comes with the support for Samsung Pay. The listing says it comes with Samsung pay mini App instead of Samsung pay. Samsung uses Samsung Pay mini on older or the budget/ mid-range phones while the Samsung Pay App is for high-end devices. In fact, Samsung introduced the Samsung Pay in India, back in March 2017.

Lastly, the Samsung Mall is another extraneous addition to the Samsung On7 Prime. The App allows you to use any product image in your gallery to search the product online on various shopping sites. Shoppers can then buy the product using the Samsung universal cart.

Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime – Initial thoughts

To sum up, the On7 Prime is a boring replica of Samsung J7 Prime launched in 2016, but with a better selfie camera. (The J7 prime offers 8 MP selfie shooter).

I am not sure what Samsung will be able to achieve with this recalcitrant approach. The growing share of Oppo, Vivo, and especially Xiaomi is a big cause of concern for the Korean conglomerate.

The need of the hour is to create mid-range products that people want to buy like the Honor 7X or the Mi A1. The old wine in a new bottle is not going to work for Samsung. Indian buyers are astute.

Also, Samsung has recently launched the Samsung A8 Plus in India for Rs. 32,999.
