Latest Smartphone with Dual Front Selfie Camera – Asus Zenfone 5 Lite

Dual Front Selfie Cameras + Dual Rear Cameras – Zenfone 5 Lite Launched at MWC

If I can recall accurately, the Lenovo Vibe S1 was one of the earliest phones to come with Dual Front Selfie cameras. It came with 8 MP + 2 MP selfie cameras back in November 2015.

Since then, there are several new phones which offer Dual Selfie Cameras such as the Vivo V5 Plus, Oppo F3 Plus, Huawei Nova 2i or Honor 9 lite all offering Dual front cameras.

Latest Smartphone with Dual Front Selfie Camera the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite

Asus at the MWC 2018 has launched a new phone called Zenfone 5 Lite that comes with Dual Selfie cameras as well as Dual Rear cameras. So, it is a Quad-Camera phone with Dual rear/front cameras. Similar to the Huawei Honor 9 Lite or the more expensive Huawei Honor 9i.

In fact, Asus last year launched the Asus Zenfone Selfie Pro that I reviewed even came with Dual selfie cameras. However, the selfie camera on that device was not that great and suffered from all sort of issues such as overexposure and edge blurring. Let’s hope this year Zenfone lite offers a better camera experience.

Also, Asus has launched 3 new phones in the Zenfone 5 series that you can explore here.

Let’s check out what’s new in the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite.

Design and Display

For starters, the Zenfone 5 Lite is different in comparison to the more premium members of its family, the Zenfone 5/5Z. The noticeable difference is the lack of iPhone X notch at the top of the display on the Lite version.

Moreover, it comes with a Bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a more subtle 80% screen to body ratio. ( instead of 90% and 19:9 aspect ratio on Zenfone 5).

At the front, there is a 6.0-inch display that comes with FHD+ (2160*1080 pixels) resolution and even has 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

The back side is made of glass and houses the fingerprint scanner and the Dual rear cameras.

Dual Cameras

At the front side, there is a 20MP+8 MP IMX376 image sensor that comes with f/2.0 aperture. One of the cameras has 85.5 wide angle view while the secondary lens offers an even broader 120-degree view to capture group selfies.

Moreover, it comes with live beautification using the Selfie Master technology and even has a dedicated front flash.

On the other hand, the rear camera comes with a 16MP+8MP camera setup using a f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera comes with 4K videos recording support along with PDAF, PRO mode, and AUTO HDR functions.

Performance

Asus Zenfone 5 Lite comes with a fast processor, defying the Lite tag that it carries. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Octa-Core processor with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The 8 Core processor is accompanied by the Adreno 508 GPU.

There is another variant that comes with Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and Adreno 505 GPU.  The SD 630 version comes with 4 GB LPDDR4 ram whereas the SD 430 version gets 3 GB LPDDR3 ram.

There is going to be a significant performance difference between both the devices as the Snapdragon 630 is almost 2X faster to SD 430.

Additionally, the mobile runs on the latest Asus Zen UI 5.0 along with the Android Oreo 8.0 OS.

Other Features

There is a 3300 mAH capacity battery that powers the Zenfone 5 Lite and is sufficient to make it last all day without a need for charging. However, unlike the more premium Zenfone 5, it lacks the super fast charging support or even the USB type C port.

The phone comes with a standard micro-USB port at the bottom along with the 3.5mm headphone jack and a single speaker.

There is a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device for quick unlocking. Also, you can use the face-recognition algorithm to unlock the device using the facial unlocking feature.

Moreover, it comes with two nifty additions; there is NFC support that is usually missing on most phones. Secondly, it comes with a 3 card tray to use two dedicated sim cards and a micro-SD card simultaneously.

Pricing and Availability

Asus India has not shared the exact launch date for the Zenfone 5 Lite, but it can launch in late March or April 2018. Also, we can expect the price to be in the range of 15k to 20k as it will compete with the Huawei Honor 9 Lite or the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

In conclusion, the Zenfone 5 lite offers lots of promising features that are desired from a modern mid-range device. Most of all, if Asus can get the price right they can pitch it against the Xiaomi and Huawei top selling mid-rangers in India.
