The new Indian Tech startup has launched it’s first smartphone known as the tphone. Smartron has backing from God – I mean the God of Cricket (Sachin Tendulkar) who is not only the brand Ambassador for Smartron but has also invested in the company and is a shareholder. Smartron is founded by Mr. Mahesh Lingareddy.
He is an entrepreneur at heart and has a vision for Smartron to become one of the leading companies in the IOT space. (Internet of Things). He has earlier founded a company known as Soft machines which raised $150 million in VC capital and is now inclined to take Smartron to bigger stage.
The Vision for the company is to have world class products made in India by an Indian company and have the type of dominance in IOT as India have in the software services.
While the manufacturing is ruled by the Chinese counterparts which have fueled Chinese economy to 5 times the size of India to a massive $10 trillion. He believes India can do much better by making world class products in India, and I can’t agree more to this thought.
Smartron has earlier launched the tbook and ultrabook similar to the Microsoft Surface hybrid tablet. It is a high end ultra-book with 12.2 inch screen & 2560-by-1600 resolution with 128 GB SSD, 4 GB Ram and 64 Bit 2.0 GHz Intel Core M Processor. The company is not interested to make run of the mill cheap smartphones or laptops, they are building quality products.
I went through their forum page and checked out the conversation with the buyers, it was very caring and responsive interaction. Building and selling products is one thing caring for customers is another. Also some of the comments suggested that the company is planning to launch a gaming laptop , more ultra-books and
The tPhone will launch in the beginning of June 2016 and is priced at Rs. 22,999. It is a bold move for a new company to launch a high end smartphone, something we said even about the Creo Mark 1 (another Indian startup).
The tPhone looks different from most of the conventional smartphones, a design which at least is unique and original. The smartphone comes with Dual tone metallic finish and is available in 4 colors – Grey , pink , blue and a bold orange.
The smartphone is one of the thinner mobiles in 5.5 inch screen segment measuring 6.9 mm(thinner than iPhone 6s Plus) and has a weight of 159 grams. There is a large speaker grill at the bottom of the smartphone and the USB Type C connector is pushed to one side unlike its usual center placement in most smartphones.
Display – tphone comes with 5.5 inch Full HD (1920*1080) pixels Amoled display with 401 PPI. The display is protected by corning’s Gorilla glass 3 to make it more scratch resistant. There is also Apical assertive display technology for excellent outdoor legibility for reading text in bright light.
Performance – The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Processor V 2.1 same as the Google Nexus 6P or the One Plus 2. The tPhone comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4 Ram and Adreno 430 GPU to provide excellent gaming/multitasking performance.
Camera – The smartphone comes with 13 Megapixel rear camera with 1.14 micron 6P lens with f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera also has capability to record 4K videos. The camera also deploys PDAF as well as ZSL (Zero shutter lag) technologies to take sharper images.
The front camera is a 4 Megapixel shooter and comes with larger 2.0 micron pixels to take sharper images in the low light conditions.
Storage and OS – The Smartron comes with a massive 64 GB of internal storage and also has support for a micro-sd card. It runs on the latest Android Marshmallow OS from Google. tPhone also offers unlimited cloud storage to the users to back up data and photos online.
Audio – The tphone comes with Built-in speaker with sound chamber along with DTS Premium sound, DTS PlayFI to offer crisp audio. The smartphone has 4 Microphones to provide better audio for calls and background noise cancellation. It utilizes a technology that Smartron says is “(Echo cancellation and noise suppression) WVE(Always wide band for Voice)” to offer better audio call quality.
Connectivity – The smartphone comes with Dual Sim Support Micro Sim and a Nono Sim slot , one of the slot on the smartphone is a hybrid slot. If you wish to add more storage it can be done. The smartphone comes with 4G LTE support as well as VOLTE.
Battery Life – The smartphone is thin yet it has a decent 3000 mAH battery capacity and comes with the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and USB Type C port to charge the device quickly.
Competition – The tPhone on paper looks very promising but again we will have to wait in for some more real user reviews and test the camera and device before passing any judgment.
The tphone is going to compete in market with the OnePlus 2 , Lenvo Vibe X3 and the Xiaomi Mi5 in the Rs. 20K to 25K price range. While others have a proven track record tphone will have to be exceptionally good in many areas including aftersales service to win more hearts.
