Motorola Moto G4 was launched a year back and now Motorola is going to launch new Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphone. Both the smartphones are going to get launched at the end of this month at the MWC 2017 event, in Barcelona.
The leaks have been flooded on the internet with its design and spec sheets revealed over the last few weeks. Recently, a Spanish online retailer, K-Tronix made it even more prominent by listing the smartphone on their site and later on Evan Blass shared some more pictures of the Moto G5 and G5 Plus.
Lenovo has gone back to the drawing board and has possibly changed everything in the Moto G4 Plus, except the camera sensors.
The upcoming Moto G5 and G5 Plus sport a metal body like the Moto M. Sadly, it’s not a uni-body and instead has plastic strips at the top and the bottom. Although the design of those strips for better antenna reception seems to be similar to that found on Honor 5C. Oddly, there’s an off-centered secondary microphone on one of those plastic strips.
While the back will feature the iconic Motorola logo, the sides of the phone also have a Lenovo logo, to emphasize the parent brand name.
The Moto G5 series will sport a front sensor but with a much better and traditional design instead of the strange square shaped sensor on the Moto G4.
The camera casing has also seen an overhaul. It now comes with a similar looking round shaped housing seen on the more expensive Moto Z series. Although, the lack of magnetic pins at the back shuns the possibility of any Moto-Mods.
Overall its got a much better design than the Moto G4 series.
Motorola Moto G5
According to the listing, the G5 and G5 Plus might share some of the specifications. Both the phones will include storage expansion up to 128 GB with the help of micro SD card. It’s still not confirmed whether they’ll sport a dedicated card slot like their predecessor.
The Moto G5 and G5 Plus will ship with Android Nougat v 7.0 update, out of the box.
Unfortunately, the listing states that both the phones will sport only 2 GB of RAM, though we expect there will be a 3 GB RAM version for the G5 Plus. The smartphone will have the water repellent coating and will also get a 5 MP front-facing selfie camera.
The Moto G5 will sport a 5-inch FHD IPS display. Powering the phone would be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SOC. There’s 32 GB of internal storage for all your media needs.
It runs on 2800 mAH battery with rapid charging technology. Which is a slightly lower as its predecessor G4 came with a beefier 3000 mAh pack. It’ll also flaunt a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash.
It’s going to be slightly thinner and lighter than the Moto G4. As per the listing, the G5 would measure around 9.5 mm thickness and weigh approximately at 145 g. Rumours are, the G5 would be priced lower than the Moto G4.
Moto G5 Plus
The Moto G5 would feature a 5.2 inch Full HD display, which is slightly smaller than the 5.5 Inch display on the Moto G4 Plus.
The phone will be driven by a much better Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor clocked at 2.0 GHz along with the Adreno 506 GPU, compared to the hot-headed 617 Chipset found in its predecessor. This time around it’ll come with 64 GB of internal storage, along with storage expansion option.
The Moto G5 Plus would feature a 12 MP rear camera with dual autofocus capability and will come with a Sony IMX 362 sensor with f/1.7 aperture. It’s going to be crucial for them to nail the camera performance once again, in order to keep the Moto fans happy. Last years Moto G4 Plus has one of the best cameras in the Sub 15K price range.
Powering the phone will be the same 3000 mAh battery with Turbocharging feature.
Whereas, the Moto G5 Plus is going to be much thinner than the G4 Plus. It’ll probably measure around 7.9 mm in thickness. Although, it would weigh the same at 155 grams.
Both the G5 and G5 Plus would support 4G/VoLTE like the majority of the phones in 2016. It’ll be available in 2 color options Lunar Grey and Fine Gold.
