Snapdragon 855 Plus Vs Snapdragon 855 – The Fast Android Processor is Here
So we all know the go-to processor if you are buying an Android flagship phone is Snapdragon 855 which is the successor to the Snapdragon 845.
But Qualcomm is breaking the tradition of launching one flagship processor, this year, with the launch of new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus.
We already have several mobiles running on the Snapdragon 855 such as the Oneplus 7, Oneplus 7 Pro, Asus 6Z or the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro.
Now, Qualcomm has released a new Processor that comes with similar architecture as the SD 855 but offers faster performance.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus
The new SD 855 plus is meant to deliver faster performance in Gaming, VR, XR and even for the multi-gigabit 5G experience.
Mr. Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. says “Snapdragon 855 Plus is our most advanced mobile platform to date and will build upon the success of the 2019 Android flagship Snapdragon 855 5G mobile platform.”
The Snapdragon 855 Plus comes with the X24 4G LTE modem and even has the X50 5G modem. Qualcomm has boosted the CPU clock speed on the Snapdragon 855 Plus to 2.96 GHz from 2.84 GHz on the Snapdragon 855.
Further, Qualcomm Says that the Adreno 640 GPU used in the SD 855 Plus offers a 15% performance boost over the SD 855. This essentially means that the SD 855 plus can offer better mobile gaming performance vs the SD 855.
Notably, the core clock speed of the Adreno 640 GPU is increased from 585 MHz (SD 855) to 672 MHz (SD 855 Plus).
Also, this is a plus for people looking for a pure gaming mobile. The SD 855 Plus is kindof pre-factory overclocked in comparison to the SD 855.
The GPU uses the Vulkan 1.1 Graphics drivers that are 20% more energy-efficient in comparison to the Open GL ES. Further, the processor comes with improved AI performance with upto 7 trillion operations per second throughput.
However, the underlying technology remains the same for the SD 855 Plus. It is made from the 7Nm manufacturing process and comes with Kryo 485 CPU cores.

Essentially, at the time of writing this article, we don’t have any benchmarks available for the SD 855 Plus but will update this post once they are.
Upcoming Smartphones Using Snapdragon 855 Plus
Besides, the only email confirmation that I have got so far is from Asus that they are planning to launch the Asus Rog Phone 2 using the Snapdragon 855 Plus. The phone will likely launch in late August or September.
But since the new higher clocked processor is available now, we can expect the new Razor Phone or the Xiaomi Mi Black Shark 3 utilizing it.
Further, there are some premium phones like the Samsung Note 10 and the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL are launching in the latter half of 2019 which may use the Snapdragon 855 Plus.
Since budget is not a constraint for the Samsung and Google flagship, fans may want to have the latest processor from Qualcomm in these devices.
