SD 888 Vs SD 865 Vs A14 Vs A15 Vs Exynos 2100 – Compared

Apple has released the new iPhone 13 series that comes with the cutting-edge Apple A15, stated as the fastest mobile processor in the world launched by the Cupertino tech giant.

Also, Qualcomm launched the new Snapdragon 888 processor based on the cutting-edge 5 Nm manufacturing process.

Also, Samsung has unveiled the Exynos 2100 based on the 5 Nm process that will also power some of the company’s flagship mobiles in 2021.

Also, it’s worth comparing these processors with the current flagship Snapdragon 865 as the base performer.

Let’s first check out each processor’s details, and we will also try to add the benchmark scores for all the processors when they are available.

Comparison – Apple A15, Snapdragon 888, Snapdragon 865, Apple A14, and Exynos 2100 :

1). Apple A15 Bionic Chipset

Apple launched its iPhone 13 series a few days back and this series comes with a flagship A15 Bionic chipset.

The A15 chip offers a 50% faster performance than the competition as claimed by Apple.

It has 15 billion transistors whereas its predecessor has 11.8 Billion transistors that mean the transistor is increased by 25% in the new A15 chip. Therefore, it offers more powerful performance and efficiency.

We can say that the A15 Bionic is an upgraded version of Apple’s A14 chip. The A15 chip comes with a 5 nm manufacturing process and a 64- bit ARM-based system support moreover it has 6-cores and 6-threads with a base clock speed of 2.93 GHz and a maximum of 3.23 GHz.

Additionally, the processor has a single-core score of 1728, a multi-core score of 4695, and has an AnTuTu score of 853035 that is 17% greater than the Apple A14 chip.

Furthermore, It carries up to 8GB RAM, 5G, and WiFi 6 supportable.

Apple A15 Bionic chip includes a 4-core graphic processor. Apple claimed that the flagship A15 chip has a 55% faster gaming performance than the A14 and has a faster 16-core AI processing Neural Engine.

2) Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 :

Qualcomm has unveiled Snapdragon 888 – its next-generation flagship system-on-chip (SoC) on Tuesday (1 Dec). It was unveiled during the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020. This 5G mobile platform is based on 5 nm architecture, which will set the benchmark for premium smartphones in 2021.

  • Kryo 680 CPU and Qualcomm Hexagon 780 processor
  • Adreno 660 GPU
  • First Snapdragon with triple ISP camera

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the first chip with a 64-bit Kryo 680 CPU-based Cortex-X1 core, which uplifts 25% CPU execution. The 5 nm manufacturing results in breakthrough performance and exceptional power efficiency. Compared to the Cortex A78, X1 executes 33% more instructions per clock.

The L1 and L2 cache sizes are doubled, and the X1 Core runs on 2.84 GHz clock speed.

The biggest leap is the Adreno 660 GPU that delivers up to 35% faster graphics distributing than the prior generation (Adreno 650 used in the SD 865). The chip is furnished with a full Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite gaming armory, which promotes ultra-smooth gaming; desktop-level experience. VRS (Variable Rate Shading) technology improves game rendering by up to 30%.

The 6th gen AI consolidates the new Hexagon 780 and GPU’s number powers to liberate 26 TOPS. So, the production per Watt has progressed up to 3X. It supports LPDDR5 memory up to 3,200 MHz and LPDDR4X up to 2,133 MHz, and up to 16 GB.

The trait Type-1 Hypervisor implements a new security method by ensuring and confining data between apps and multiple OS on the corresponding device. It includes a Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec and a Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 for fast charging support.

The Qualcomm Spectra 580 ISP allows capturing images from the triplex cameras simultaneously with a Triple Image Signal Processor. You can relish snaps at 120 fps and shoot three 4K HDR videos simultaneously.

Realme has unveiled ‘Race,’ one of the first smartphones with the all-new Snapdragon 888. The chip will power the high-end 5G phone in 2021. From Xiaomi, M1 11 will be the first one to ship with the SD 888.

For connectivity, the chip uses the Snapdragon X60 5G integrated modem. The downlink speed goes up to 7 Gbps, whereas uplinks up to 3 Gbps. This 3rd gen modem holds the sub-6 and mmWave qualities of 5G. The FastConnect 6900 system comes with Wifi 6G and can reach up to 3.6 Gbps, and the 6E contributes low latency. According to Qualcomm, this one is the fastest mobile WIFI in the industry.

The initial GeekBench 5 Scores for Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 :

The VIVO V2056A was listed on the GeekBench 5 Test with Snapdragon 888. The phone packs 12 GB RAM and runs on Android 11.

The Geekbench score for the Mobile – Single Core is 1135, and the multi-core score is 3681.

A 20% rise in single-core performance over Snapdragon 865 based on the initial benchmarks for single-core performance. The Multi-Core performance is not much higher in comparison to the SD 865.

The Apple A15 leads the Geekbenchmark charts when it comes to Single-Core performance.

Apple A14 has a massive lead over the Snapdragon 888 and the Snapdragon 865+ in both the Single-Core as well as Multi-Core performance.

The Apple A14 is a monster with 1603 and 4187 scores, even the Apple A13 is about 10% faster than the Snapdragon 888 in the Single-Core performance.

The Snapdragon 888 is faster than the Apple A13 in multi-core performance but lags in Single-Core performance.

Considering the GeekBench Mark 5 performance the SD 888 is not going to outperform the Apple A14.

Notably, the SD 888 was ahead of the Apple A14 but the A15 decimates all the processors.

3) Qualcomm Snapdragon 865:

Snapdragon 865 was launched back in 2019 and is the most powerful mobile chip. It made for flagship smartphones with a striking improvement in AI, gaming, and photography.

  • Number of Cores – 8 Cores ( 1 * Cortex A77) clocked at 2.84GHz, 3 * Cortex A77 at 2.42GHz, and 4* Cortex A55 at 1.80GHz.

  • Adreno 650 GPU with 587 MHz Clock Speed

The Snapdragon 865 is built with performance and capability octa-core CPU configuration likewise Snapdragon 855. It has a tri-cluster structure based on the 7 nm process. The largest core is ARM Cortex A77 clocked at 2.85 GHz and has flanked with a 512 KB L2 cache memory for top performance.

Before the arrival of SD 888 with A78 cores, the A77 was the powerful ARM CPU with sufficient potential to run enjoining apps and mobile games with satisfaction. Till that, neither Kirin 990 nor Exynos 990 applied this core, and they settle on the older Cortex- A76.

The brand promised to uplift the overall performance by 25%. The Hexagon 698 DSP offers 4 * TOPS performance and 35% more energy efficiency than the previous Hexagon DSP.

The 5th gen Qualcomm AI Engine offers 2X more performance than the preceding one. The Hexagon 686 Tensor accelerator pushes 15 TOPS with the highest effectiveness. By using less power, the integrated Sensing Hub assures voice detection and recognition for virtual assistants.

The Qualcomm 480 ISP captures quality photos and videos. It can capture 200 MP photos and 8k video recording, simultaneously with 64 MB photos and 4k videos.

The new Snapdragon Elite gaming features offer desktop-level gaming with a jaw-dropping experience. This chip was the first to use updatable GPU drivers on mobile. The GPU used by the chip is the Qualcomm Adreno 650.

It has an X55 5G modem RF system that supports dynamic spectrum sharing and mmWave sub-6 GHz for connectivity. The only downgrade is that the modem is used externally with the chip.

4) Apple A14 Bionic chip:

Apple A14 Bionic chip has appeared with the latest iPhone 12 and iPad Air(2020) model. Before this release, the chip has declared by Apple.

The A14 offers a 40% higher performance than the old A12 chip. It has six cores, 2 for performance and 4 for power efficiency. The company described the chip to be more powerful than most of the PC.

Apple’s mobile processor contains a CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, which facilitates 4K resolution video editing, 3D gaming, image recognition, natural language interaction, and more.

Apple A14 Bionic Chip

The A14 Bionic is Apple’s first SoC with a 5 nm manufacturing process with a 64- bit support. It uses 6-cores and 6-threads with a base clock speed of 1.8 GHz and a maximum of 3.1 GHz.

The cores packed are much closer. The smaller and tighter space increases the processing speed by reducing the battery power needed.

It carries 6GB LPDDR4X DRAM. The maximum memory capacity is 6 GB with 2 memory channels and 42.7 GB/s bandwidth. It supports an 8MB memory Cache.

A14 Bionic includes a 4-core graphic processor. Apple says that A14 has a 30% faster gaming performance than the A12. The AI processing Neural Engine has 16-cores, which provides 10X faster calculations and 70% quicker machine learning.

5) Samsung Exynos 2100 :

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series will come with two different processors, i.e., the latest Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 2100. According to the tipster, it has been believed that the Exynos 2100 chip will use the ARM’s new Cortex -X1 super core.

The chip is expected to have the same architecture as the Snapdragon 888 chip. They might come with the same eight-core design, but the CPU frequency will be different.

According to the leaked specs for Exynos 2100, the core clock speed of 2.91 GHz, the bigger cores to have a clock speed of 2.81 GHz, and the smaller, power-efficient cores at 2.21 GHz.

Also, it has a better energy efficiency ratio than the previous generation.

Yet, we may have to wait for the full specification until the launch of the Samsung Exynos 2100 chip. We will update if there are more details available for the processors or if more benchmarks are leaked.
