Sony has unveiled it’s new high-end smartphone called as the Sony Xperia XZ1, at the IFA 2017.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 is the successor to the Xperia XZ or the Xperia XZs. The smartphone comes with a bland design from the past and do not try hard to distinguish from the earlier Sony smartphones.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium which is the Flagship phone from Sony comes with a similar design and so does the XZ. The Sony XZ premium is priced at R. 59,999 or $900 in the US.
Sony Xperia XZ1
Now Sony has launched the XZ1 with a similar camera but will be $200 cheaper, we can expect it to be priced at Rs. 45,000 in India when it goes on sale.
The major difference between the new XZ1 and the Sony XZ Premium is the display resolution, the XZ Premium comes with 4K display with 3840*2160 resolution while the XZ 1 comes with a Full HD display.
While everyone else is offering a Quad HD or QHD+ display Sony is saying either take the FHD or go for the ultimate 4K, which are both not the perfect choices for many buyers.
The Sony XZ Premium or XZ or the XZ1 all look the same and they are even close to 3 years old Sony Z5 and Z4 models in terms of design.
While the Samsung, LG and iPhone have moved from older design to new, Sony is still stuck in the past.
While most smartphone manufacturers are jumping to 18:9 design with minimal bezels at the front Sony XZ1 still come with terrifyingly big bezels.
Though the smartphone is made of metal and comes with a boxy design, it just looks outdated compared to the Note 8 or LG V30.
Although Sony has some tricks up its sleeve when it comes to the camera. The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with a 19 Megapixel rear camera similar to the XZ1 premium.
It can record insane 960 FPS Slow motion which is way too slow even compared to the 240 FPS Slow-mo on an iPhone 7 Plus.
But really when was the last time you recorded a slow-motion video. If that is not futuristic, it also promises that you can capture 3D images using the rear camera by moving around a subject and share it to a 3D printer or can also use it to share on social media.
The camera also comes with predictive focus shots which can capture images ahead you pressing the button to click them, it helps to capture special moments so you don’t miss it.
One thing which is really impressive about the Sony Xperia XZ1 camera is that it can click shots much faster almost at 10 FPS like the Sony Alpha cameras. There is no lag between one shot and the other and is an excellent feature for clicking sports and moving kids.
The smartphone comes with a 13 Megapixel front selfie camera to click some detailed shots.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Specs and other features
The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with a 5.2 Inch Full HD Display and has TRILUMINOS, X-Reality technologies along with support for HDR display features. The display on the XZ1 has the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
The colour quality is also incredible on the Sony XZ1 as it comes with 138% sRGB.
The smartphone also comes with the cutting edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.35 GHz and also has the Adreno 540 GPU for gaming and multimedia.
The smartphone also has 4 GB of Ram and 64 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded using the micro-sd card.
The XZ1 will be available in Black, Warm Silver, Moonlit Blue and Venus Pink colours.
Additionally, it comes with IP68 /65 rating which makes it water and dustproof. The smartphone comes with USB Type C port, also has a headphone jack.
The XZ1 comes with 2700 mAH capacity battery and has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support and Qnovo charging technology to enhance the battery life operation.
Moreover, the smartphone will run on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 from Google and will offer the best user experience. Great Job Sony for bringing the latest OS ahead of everyone.
The smartphone comes with a Fingerprint scanner at the side. (Though it was earlier believed that the smartphone does not have a fingerprint scanner).
Sony has not forgotten one of its key strengths from the old Walkman days, a better sound quality. The XZ1 also comes with Clear Audio+ and DSEE HX to enhance the user experience while listening to music.
Sony XZ1 is an interesting phone with some pros and cons as I have stated above, it may appeal to Sony fans but will it able to attract Apple, Google or Samsung loyalists.
