Update – 16 – September – 2015
Sony has backtracked on the status that the new Xperia Z5 line of smartphones including the Z5 premium, Z5, and the Z5 compact are safe to use in a pool.
Moreover, the company seems to be sending mixed signals all of a sudden, advertising the Xperia Z5 Premium, Z5 and Z5 Compact as IP68 certified, yet at the same time advising against actually using the devices underwater.
Sony actually tests the smartphones by sinking them in a tank filled with water to a level of 1.5 meters and then taking the smartphone out after 30 minutes, but the conditions in a pool or sea water are different, with chlorinated water or the salty water with varying degree of temperature and pressure.
It is a bit confusing as Sony has not been giving a clear mandate that the smartphones to be used in a pool or on the beach while it calls them waterproof.
However, the good news is that the smartphone can be washed under the tap or can be easily used in the rain without any issues. So we can have a rain Selfie, under water Selfie sounds a little risky for the premium Z5 now.
The Sony Xperia Z5 is Waterproof and dust tight (IP65 and IP68) which makes sure that carrying it in rainy weather and to the beach is not worrisome.
The smartphone has 2900 mAH battery which is slightly lower than the 2930 mAH battery capacity of Xperia Z3+.
