Vernee had seen a successful year with its flagship Apollo. The smartphone brand was launched in China and is still a young brand with high aspirations to expand to other countries like Xiaomi.
Almost a year later, Vernee is gearing up to release a successor called as Apollo 2. They’re planning to release it at MWC 2017 event at Barcelona.
Their last flagship offering was the first smartphone to run on a Deca-Core MediaTek Helio X20 SOC. It was paired with a whopping 6 GB of RAM, at first it looked to be an overkill. Although, OEMs like OnePlus and Vivo have made it a norm.
As far as the design is concerned the previous Vernee Apollo seemed to take inspiration from Huawei’s Mate S and Mate 8. The images leaked by Roland Quandt indicate a newer and refined design. The front seems to be similar to the OnePlus 3. Since the fingerprint sensor has shifted from the back to the front, embedded in the oblong shaped home button.
The Vernee Apollo 2 With 6 GB RAM and Helio X30 Processor
Notably, the back of the phone gets the camera sensor shifted to the left side like the iPhone. There are still those thick antenna strips running at the top and bottom.
Sadly, it hasn’t taken the advantage of the six-string antennas found on OPPO and Samsung smartphones.
Overall it looks premium and comfortable because of the rounded edges and a smooth all-metal aluminum build.
It’ll be the first to sport a newer Deca-core MediaTek Helio X30 SOC. The Helio X30 will have four Cortex-A73 clocked at 2.8 GHz, four Cortex-A53 clocked at 2.2 GHz. Finally, there are two Cortex-A35 clocked at 2 GHz. All the cores are clocked higher and indicate a tremendous amount of power.
The last 2 cores result in extra control on battery consumption when not doing any heavy tasks on the smartphone.
Since, both the chips are based on the 10nm structure it’ll be fun to observe the differences between the performances of these SOCs.
The Apollo 2 will also run IMG 7XTP-Mt4 GPU clocked at 820 MHz. This will eventually result in smooth gaming performance for hardcore gamers. The 10nm manufacturing process would directly compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset.
In Addition to the flagship processor, there is whopping 8 GB of RAM, similar to the Asus Zenfone AR.
The presence of 8 GB of RAM may not push the performance significantly higher than 6 GB, but it always give the owner bragging rights.
It’ll be available in two variants, one will pack 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage. While the other would sport 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage.
Also, the presence of Helio X30 indicates that MediaTek is all set to compete with Qualcomm and Huawei Kirin. The competition will help Mobile OEMs to choose different SOCs without missing out on performance.
Rest of the information related to the spec sheet would soon be official at the MWC 2017 event, happening in Barcelona during the last week of Feb.
There are now plenty of 6 GB ram smartphones which are available in the market and you can read about the Coolpad Coolplay 6 which is the cheapest mobile with 6 GB RAM or can also read more about the OnePlus 5 which comes with the Dual camera and also has 6 GB / 8 GB RAM.
