Vivo has today launched a new Selfie phone in the Indian market – the Vivo V7. The phone is priced at Rs. 18,999 and competes with the recently launched Oppo F5.
Notably, Vivo V7 is a watered down version of the Vivo – V7+ that was launched in India in September 2017, with a price tag of Rs. 21,999.
The Vivo V7 pre-booking will start from today on Flipkart, and the device will go on sale on 24th November 2017 on the e-commerce platform. It comes in two color variants – Gold and Matte Black.
Vivo V7 Launch Details
As launch offers, HDFC is offering a cashback offer, and Vivo will do a free screen replacement if required in the first six months of purchase.
Like the V7 Plus, the Vivo V7 has a bezel-less display and the 24 MP selfie camera. However, the V7 comes with a slightly smaller screen, lower storage, and battery capacity when compared to its elder sibling.
I am yet to see a Vivo phone which doesn’t play on selfies but talk about performance. Besides, the new V7 is a selfie lovers delight.
24 MP Selfie Camera and 16 MP Rear Camera
The Vivo V7 comes with a 24 Megapixel selfie camera with moonlight flash and a f/2.0 aperture. The front camera comes with face beautify 7.0 and a portrait mode to take selfies with background blur. The 24 Megapixel camera ensures that the selfies are detailed and vibrant looking.
At the rear side, it comes with a 16 Megapixel rear camera which also has a f/2.0 aperture and also has support for Slow motion as well as time lapse.
Apart from the high megapixel camera on the Vivo phone, it boasts of a bezel-less 5.7 Inch HD (1440*720 pixels) Display panel with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is slightly smaller compared to the V7+ which has a 6.0 Inch display. The display also has 2.5D curved glass on top of the screen to improve the touch experience and has 83.6% screen to body ratio.
Although the display is ideal for media consumption, it would have been better to ship V7 and V7 plus with an FHD+ resolution for a better experience.
The design of Vivo V7 is elegant, and it is likely made from polycarbonate material and has a fingerprint scanner at the back. The antenna bands are at the top and bottom edge, and the phone looks slightly boxier compared to other Vivo phones.
The phone measures 7.9 mm in thickness and has 139 grams weight. The battery capacity for the Vivo V7 is 3000 mAH compared to the 3225 mAH in the Vivo V7 Plus.
Performance and Other Specs
Similar to V7+, the Vivo V7 also comes with the Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. There is Adreno 505 GPU to take care of gaming and graphics-intensive tasks.
The phone comes with 4 GB of Ram and has 32 GB of internal storage. It can be further expanded to 256 GB using the Micro-sd card slot.
The connectivity options include 4G VOLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Micro-USB port, WIFI. Notably, the Vivo V7 comes with two sim slots and a dedicated micro-sd card slot to house a memory card.

Initial Thoughts Vivo V7
The Vivo V7 has a 24 MP Selfie camera, and the voguish bezel-less display as salient features. Moreover, the 18:9 aspect ratio, bezel-free displays are becoming common. And most mid-range phones in 2018 are expected to use them. On the flip side, it lacks on some essential hardware specs which are expected in this price range.
The processor is just average, and many phones are offering superior performance in the sub 15k price range. Aforementioned, it has an HD only display, and also lacks a USB Type C port, NFC. These are essential features for mid-range devices.
Like other Vivo phones, the V7 also scores big on the selfie camera. And a lot of buyers who don’t need other features will like the device. On the other hand, performance enthusiasts will stay at an arm’s length from the new Vivo V7.
