Xiaomi Mi 5X China Launch 26 July – Official Now

Xiaomi, as expected, has launched the Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone today(26th July) in China. The smartphone was launched along with the unveiling of MIUI 9 at an event in Beijing, China.

The smartphone is priced at CNY 1499 (or Rs. 15000/ $220) in the Chinese market. The pricing is aggressive as always and for a Dual Camera phone with decent specs, it is bound to do well for Xiaomi in China.

Xiaomi Mi 5X Launch as Mi A1 in India

Update – Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Mi A1 in India which is same as Xiaomi Mi 5X as far as hardware is concerned. However, instead of MIUI 9 it runs on the Stock Android Nougat and is an Android One Phone. You can read more here about the Mi A1.

Xiaomi is taking on Oppo, Vivo, and Huawei with the new Xiaomi Mi5X phone with its Dual camera system and sleek design.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X looks like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus or the OnePlus 5 from the rear side.

Key Specs and Features – Mi 5X

It comes with a Dual rear camera and a LED flash at the back side. Moreover, the Dual rear camera setup, Xiaomi says, is similar to the Xiaomi Mi6

The device comes with  12-megapixel wide-angle lens with 1.25-micron pixel sensor, f/2.2 aperture, the second lens is a 12-megapixel telephoto with 1-micron pixel sensor and f/2.6 aperture. The camera implementation is similar to the Mi6 and it can do a 2X Optical Zoom and 10X Digital Zoom.

The camera also has a portrait mode for clicking images with Bokeh effect. However, at the front Xiaomi has not added any exciting options for Selfie lovers. Also, there is a 5 Megapixel front camera which comes with a f/2.2  aperture.

Furthermore, there is a fingerprint scanner on the rear side and the smartphone comes with a metallic unibody frame.

The phone comes with a large display and boasts of a 5.5 Inch Full HD screen with a 2.5D curved glass coating.

A New Experience – MIUI 9

Further, it runs on the latest MIUI 9 along with the Android Nougat. There are several improvements which come with the MIUI 9.0 – including the Xiaomi’s own digital assistant, a new file system, and faster App opening performance. The MIUI 9.0 offers multi-window split screen feature which has been available on other ROMs.


Also, there is built-in image search which allows for a full device memory image search.

Powering the Mi 5X is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. There is Adreno 506 GPU to take care of graphics.

Notably, the same processor is used by Xiaomi in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

There is 4 GB of Ram and 64 GB of internal storage expandable up to 128 GB using the Micro-sd card slot.

For the audiophiles, it comes with, an improved sound experience.  It uses a DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm to offer better sound through the speaker and headphones.

For connectivity, it comes with USB Type C Port. Besides, there is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack present on the device. The phone has support for VOLTE and even comes with Dual Sim.

The phone has 7.3 mm thickness and weighs 165 grams. It is a much thinner phone if we compare it to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Lastly, the Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with a decent 3080 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to run it all day.

Moreover, it is available in 3 color options – Black, Rose Gold and Gold and will go on sale in China on 1 August 2017 at 10.00 am.

Notably, it is available in China today, although it is not clear when it will launch in India.

Xiaomi launched the Dual Camera Mi6 in China in April 2017 and also launched a Xiaomi Mi 5C powered by surge S1(Xiaomi made processor) back in February 2017.

Nevertheless, Dual Camera mobiles are in vogue and Xiaomi is catching up on the trend fast with the Xiaomi Mi6 and MI 5X. Also, Xiaomi has recently launched its Big Display Xiaomi Mi Max 2 in the Indian market priced at Rs. 16999.
