Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Offers a Curved Display Looks Like Samsung S7 Edge
Xiaomi has launched a Samsung S7 edge replica with some of the best hardware specs and a really affordable price tag. The company at an event named as “Curved to Impress” unveiled the new Mi Note 2. Besides, the event was held in China and was attended by 1000s of Xiaomi Fans and tech enthusiasts.
The key highlight is the curved glass front and back design, remarkably similar to the Samsung S7 edge. The form factor of the device is more like the S7 edge. Notably, the Samsung Note 7 is slightly broader in appearance.
Key Specifications and Features
For starters, it comes with glass and metal construction and Xiaomi calls the design as “Dual Edge Curved Display“. The interesting thing is that Xiaomi is using the 1080P Full HD OLED Display and have not gone for the Quad HD resolution like S7 edge.
Moreover, the OLED display on the Mi Note 2 comes with 110% NTSC color gamut. This means it can display a wide spectrum of colors and images will look more vivid on this display compared to normal IPS LCD panels. Also, the screen to body ratio touted by Xiaomi is impressive, 77.2% that lowers the bezels.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 comes in 3 variants with following Price :
- Xiaomi Mi Note 2 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM – CNY 2799 (Rs. 27,500).
- The Mi Note 2 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM – CNY 3299 (Rs. 32,500).
- The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM Global Variant – CNY 3499 (Rs. 34,500).
The pricing has been a forte for Xiaomi and it continues with the Mi Note 2. If you are wondering what is different in the Global variant, it has support for 37 different LTE bands and will work with most telecom careers in the world.
Furthermore, powering the mobile we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with a clock speed of 2.35 GHz and comes with the Adreno 530 GPU.
It is the same processor as used in the Google Pixel or the Xiaomi Mi5s. Also, Xiaomi at the press conference pointed that the SD 821 used in the Mi Note 2 has a slightly faster clock speed in comparison to the one used in other phones. Notably, Xiaomi says it is a performance edition Qualcomm SD 821 SOC.
For photography, it comes with a 23 Megapixel rear camera and has a f/2.0 aperture lens. The Sony IMX318 Exmor RS sensor has 3-axes Electronic image stabilization and even has the ability to record 4K videos. It may be a good camera, but difficult to match the 12 MP, f /1.7 shooter on the S7 Edge.
Also, the front camera is decent, comes with an 8 MP lens with Sony IMX268 Exmor RS sensor and f/2.0 aperture for better low light selfies. If you observe carefully the circular camera at the back of the Mi Note 2 is placed a bit lower from the top.
The back of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is plain with a small circular camera and no antenna lines.
Connectivity, Battery, Audio
Furthermore, it comes with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button for quick unlocking. Also, we have NFC support and there is USB Type C port for connectivity. Needless to point out the global variant will have support for 4G LTE as well as VOLTE for Indian telecom operators too.
It can effortlessly work all day as it has an enormous (non-exploding) 4000 mAH battery. There is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which ensures the fast charging.
Also, it has something for the Audiophiles. There is an Aqstic Audio processor, with 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Fi to ensure a more rich music experience.
In conclusion, it seems solid having everything we can want in a modern phone, that too at a low price.
Lastly, it will come in Glacier White and Piano Black colors. The pre-orders are starting in China right away although we await for it’s launch in India along with the Xiaomi Mi5s and Mi 5s Plus.
