Xiaomi has launched a Samsung S7 edge replica with some of the best hardware specs and really affordable price tag. Xiaomi at an event named as “Curved to Impress” unveiled the new Mi Note 2. The event was held in China and was attended by 1000s of Xiaomi Fans and tech enthusiasts.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 highlight is the curved glass front and back design, remarkably similar to the Samsung S7 edge. The form factor of the device is more like the S7 edge. The Samsung Note 7 is slightly broader in appearance.
The Mi Note 2 also comes with glass and metal construction and Xiaomi calls the design as “Dual Edge Curved Display“. The interesting thing is that Xiaomi is using the 1080P Full HD OLED Display and have not gone for the Quad HD resolution like S7 edge.
The OLED display on the Mi Note 2 comes with 110% NSTC color gamut, which essentially means it can display a wide spectrum of colors and images will look more vivid on this display compared to normal IPS LCD panels. The screen to body ratio touted by Xiaomi is also impressive 77.2% which is decent and showcase the thin bezel design.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 comes in 3 variants with following Price :
- Xiaomi Mi Note 2 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM – CNY 2799 (Rs. 27,500)
- Xiaomi Mi Note 2 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM – CNY 3299 (Rs. 32,500)
- Xiaomi Mi Note 2 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM Global Variant – CNY 3499 (Rs. 34,500)
The pricing has been a forte for Xiaomi and it continues with the Mi Note 2. If you are wondering what is different about the Global variant, it has support for 37 different LTE bands and will work with most careers in world.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35 GHz and comes with the Adreno 530 GPU. It is the same processor as used in the Google Pixel smartphones or the Xiaomi Mi5s. Xiaomi at the press conference also pointed that the SD 821 used in the Mi Note 2 has a slightly faster clock speed when compared to the one used in other phones. Xiaomi says it is a performance edition Qualcomm SD 821 SOC.
The smartphone comes with a 22.56 (23) Megapixel rear camera and has a f/2.0 aperture lens. The Sony IMX318 Exmor RS sensor has 3 axis Electronic image stabilization, and also have ability to record 4K videos. It will be a good camera, but difficult to match the 12 MP, f /1.7 shooter on the S7 Edge.
The front camera is also decent with 8 MP camera with Sony IMX268 Exmor RS sensor and f/2.0 aperture for better low light selfies. If you observe carefully the circular camera at the back of the Mi Note 2 is placed a bit lower from the top when compared to Samsung S7 Edge. The back of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 looks a lot plain to me with a small circular camera and no antenna lines.
The smartphone comes with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button and can be used for quick unlocking. The smartphone also has NFC support and there is USB Type C for connectivity. Needless to point out the global variant will have support for 4G LTE as well as VOLTE for Indian telecom operators too.
The Mi Note 2 comes with an enormous (non-exploding) 4000 mAH battery. There is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which ensures the Mi Note 2 gets charged much faster.
The Mi Note 2 also has something for the Audiophiles, it comes with Aqstic Audio processor, with 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Fi to ensure a more rich music experience.
The Mi Note 2 feels solid having everything we can want in a modern smartphone, plus the more desirable price. The smartphone will be available in Glacier White and Piano Black colors. The Mi Note 2 will be up for pre-orders in China right away though we await for it’s launch in India along with the Xiaomi Mi5s and Mi 5s Plus.
