Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Vs Mi Pad – What are the key upgrades?
Xiaomi recently launched the refreshed Mi Pad 2 tablet at the Chinese Convention Centre in Beijing on 24 November 2015. The company unveiled the new tablet Mi Pad 2 which is the successor to the Mi Pad 7.9 inch tablet. It is the first device made by Xiaomi which is powered by an Intel Processor.
Xiaomi will launch 3 variants of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 :
- Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 16 GB Android OS Based priced @ Rs. 10,500. (CNY 999).
- Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 64 GB Android OS Based priced @ Rs. 13,500. (CNY 1299).
- Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 64 GB Windows 10 OS Based priced @ Rs. 10,500. (CNY 1299).
The tablets are unveiled in China and yet there is no date finalized for Global /Indian launch but we can expect it to hit the Indian online stores in Q1 2016.
The Mi Pad 2 with Android OS and MIUI 7.0 will go on sale on 27 November 2015 in China, while the Windows version of the tablet is likely to start sale in December 2015 in China.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is powered by the Intel Atom X5 – Z5800 Quad-Core 64 Bit processor with a base clock of 1.44 GHz and a boost clock of 2.24 GHz.
The processor has 2 MB of L2 Cache and comes with 4 Cores and 4 Threads. It comes along with the Intel HD GPU to offer great performance for gaming enthusiasts. The original Mi Pad used the Tegra k1 Processor made by Nvidia and offered great performance.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 has 2 GB of RAM which is similar to the original Mi Pad.
The Mi Pad 2 comes with a 7.9 inch IPS LCD Display with 2048*1536 pixel resolution and offers a high 326 PPI display which is ideal for playing games and watching videos.
The tablet comes with an 8 Mega Pixel rear camera and a 5 Mega Pixel front camera that offers good image quality.
The tablet also features the USB Type – C port which is essentially going to be the standard connectivity port in the future devices.
The Mi Pad 2 has WIFI 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. The Tablet does not support the 3G or 4G connectivity.
The Mi Pad 2 has a 6190 mAH capacity battery which almost 10% lower compared to the Mi Pad which has a 6700 mAH battery capacity. The Mi Pad 2 measures 6.95 mm in thickness and has a weight of 322 grams.
The tablet is 18% thinner compared to the original Mi Pad which has a thickness of 8.55 mm.

The new Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 offers some upgrades over the older Mi Pad with the addition of USB Type C port, a more thinner design with a better build quality and looks compared to the older gen.
The Intel X5 processor is energy efficient as well as powerful to ensure that you get an almost similar battery back up like the Nvidia Tegra K1 Soc.
The option of buying a Windows 10 tablet or the MIUI 7.0 based Android Lollipop Mi Pad 2 adds to the appeal of the newly launched tablet.
Xiaomi also launched the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 at the event in China with impressive specs and very aggressive pricing.
