Xiaomi is planned to unveil its next smartphone in the Mi4 line up today. The new Xiaomi smartphone got unveiled at an event in China. It is likely that Xiaomi will launch the smartphone first in China and then bring it to India in October or November 15.
(Update – A Xiaomi spokesman has said the product may not make its way to other Asian countries, however we have contacted Xiaomi India for further update to the matter).
The smartphone is reported to be the company’s first smartphone with the USB type C connector which we first saw on Apple Macbook and later many smartphones like the OnePlus 2 has got the future proof charging and connectivity port.
The new smartphone is named as the Mi4c though it carries the design and looks for the Mi4i which is a mid range smartphone but it will replace the Xiaomi Mi4 as the flagship product for Xiaomi. The processor in the Mi4C is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 compared to the aging Snapdragon 801 on the Xiaomi Mi4.
The same processor Snapdragon 808 is used by LG in the G4 their current flagship smartphone.
Key Specs Mi4c specifications
The Xiaomi Mi4C has the ideal 5.0 inch JDI display screen with Full HD resolution with 1920*1080 display. It offers great screen clarity and brightness upto 450 nits and has a pixel density of 440 PPI, which makes it a great choice for reading and watching HD videos.
The Mi4C is powered by the Qualcomm 64-bit snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.8 Ghz, it is a hexa core processor with Adreno 418 GPU which offers smooth gaming performance and offers lag free multi-tasking.
The processor and GPU are augmented by the 2 GB RAM, which may be a little low in the world where new smartphones are pushing the already set 3 GB standard. The smartphone is expected to come with 16 GB of internal storage.
Xiaomi has launched two models for the Xiaomi Mi4C one with 32 GB storage and 3 GB of RAM along with the second model with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage version. The 32 GB version is priced at CNY 1499 (Rs. 15,499) while the 16 GB model is priced at CNY 1299 or Rs. 13,499.
The Mi4C comes with a 13 MP primary camera with Dual LED flash and a fast shutter mode, which lets you capture images quickly with faster focus.
The front selfie camera is 5 MP which surprises me, as the old Xiaomi Mi4 packs an 8 MP camera this looks like a downgrade from at least the specs perspective.
The smartphone boasts to run on the latest Miui 7 (Android 5.1), which brings in huge number of customization option for the users. The MIUI 7.0 has great features like special icons and themes and also offers upto 30% faster performance compared to the previous OS. It also improves the battery life of the the smartphone.
The smartphone offers 4G LTE support and will also have support for the native 3G and 2G data connectivity along with WIFI/Bluetooth.
The smartphone comes with some of really handy and useful features like controlling your smart TV or Air conditioning unit from the smartphone itself, not all the appliances can be controlled but some of the brands which are supported will get the benefit of the feature.
The other cool feature is the edge tap technology on the Xiaomi Mi4C – a patented technology by Xiaomi it helps the user to take a picture if the camera App is open by doing a single tap on the edge. It can also help to go back to the previous menu by double tapping the smartphone on the edge. It is again a useful feature but accidental taps can be a menace.
The battery capacity is some thing which is again a very strong point for the upcoming smartphone, it has 3090 mAh battery. The battery comes with quick charge technology to make sure the smartphone will get charged super fast. Xiaomi makes sure that you can work all day on the smartphone without need to plug it in.
The new device is expected to come in 16 GB and 32 GB versions with 2 GB and 3 GB RAM respectively, and there will be only 100000 units available for each variants.
Xiaomi has already planned for a new line up Xiaomi (Mi 5) next to Mi4 so the Mi4c will be the last device in the Mi4 series
