Xiaomi Mi4i vs. Asus Zenphone 2
The Chinese Smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi launched the Mi4i in April 2015 at an even in New Delhi. The smartphone is targeted at mid-range budget-conscious buyers looking something extra from the device without breaking the bank.
The Asus Zenphone 2 made by the Taiwanese conglomerate is the successor to the hugely successful Asus Zenphone 5. There are various models available for the Zenphone 2 we will compare the Rs. 14,999 model(Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML) with Full HD display and 2 GB RAM with the Mi4i.
The Xiaomi Mi4i is available in white color and is one of the lightweight smartphones weighing only 130 grams. The design is neat with the good build quality and finish; the smartphone looks good but not very premium. It is easy to use and handle with one hand.
The camera is at the back, on the top right corner along with MI logo above the speaker grill. The smartphone is quite thin measuring only 7.8 mm; considering the large battery size, this is a great feat by Xiaomi.
Asus Zenphone 2 (ZE551ML) – The smartphone looks premium with dark silver grey color. The design is a bit inspired by the LG G3 with the power button at the back, which is difficult to reach. The smartphone has a polyplastic body, and the rear has the Intel logo along with Zenphone printed above the speaker grill.
The smartphone is quite thick to my liking, it measures 10.9 mm vs the 7.8 mm thickness of the Xiaomi Mi4i.
It is quite bulky weighing 170 grams, which is also slightly higher than what we expect from a 5.5-inch smartphone. Otherwise, smartphone is robustly built and looks premium with metallic shine and finish.
Design wise I prefer the Xiaomi Mi4i for being thinner and lighter. Asus Zenphone 2 though looks more premium.
The Asus Zenphone2 has a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen with 1920*1080 resolution and comes with the Asus Vivid color technology with the profound touch-sensitive display. The pixel density is 401 which is excellent and makes the Zenphone 2 reasonably good to read articles and watch videos.
The Xiaomi Mi4i also has a 1920*1080 FHD display with 5.0 inch IPS LCD screen. It has 441 PPI(pixels per inch) which makes the screen readability reasonably good. The screen is from Sharp/ JDI and offers 95% colors from NTSC palate.
Both smartphone screen has Corning Gorilla glass protection.
Mi4i and Zenphone 2 both have an excellent full HD screen and are ideal for reading and watching videos.
Processor – The Xiaomi Mi4i is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor which is an octa-core processor with Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.1 GHz Cortex-A53.
The GPU is Adreno 405 which is good for gaming. Though few users have reported heating issues in Mi4i, it is a device specific issue and nothing serious.
The Asus Zenphone 2 Intel Atom Z3560, Quad-core 1.8 GHz processor, T PowerVR G6430 which is excellent for gaming. The Asus Zenphone 2 is quite capable, and user reviews and in our test unit performed well on most of the android games like Need For Speed and Asphalt 8.
Both Xiaomi Mi4i and Asus Zenphone 2 has 2 GB RAM which is sufficient to run multiple apps.
The Asus Zenphone 2 has 16 GB internal storage which can be expanded to 64 GB using a microSD card.
The Xiaomi Mi4i has 16 Gb internal storage and no slot for expansion. You cannot use a micro-SD card to expand the storage for the Mi4i.
The Asus Zenphone 2 has a decent Li-polymer battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. It is a real positive move compared to the earlier Zenphone 5 low battery capacity. The smartphone can run a full day with moderate usage.
The Mi4i has 3120 mAH Li-ion battery which is great and offers all-day usage. It is worthy to note that despite such a large battery capacity the smartphone weighs only 130 grams which is incredible work by Xiaomi.
The Xiaomi Mi4i has both the sims capable of using high-speed data connection -4G LTE. You can use 3G as well as 4G in both the Sim cards. The other connectivity options include 3G/2G/WIFI and Bluetooth.
The Asus Zenphone 2 also has Dual sim though you can only use one Sim as 4G or 3G while the slot supports only 2G.
OS and Apps
The Asus Zenphone 2 scores high with the Android Lollipop 5.0 along with Fluid Zen UI. The smartphone is fast and smooth when using multiple apps and surfing the web.
The Zen UI is good but does come with some bloated APPs.
The Xiaomi Mi4i also runs on Android Lollipop 5.0 with MIUI 6.0 which is much evolved compared to the earlier versions of MIUI. The custom ICONS and themes look good and make it look much different than the stock android. First-time users may find it difficult to find settings and options in the UI. However, I liked the UI and lots of customization options it provides to the users.
The Asus Zenphone 2 has Pixel master 13 MP rear Camera, with Dual Led Flash and HDR. The front camera is 82-degree wide angle 5 MP selfie camera. The camera is good for daylight photography though noise in images increases with artificial light or night shots.
The Xiaomi Mi4i also has a 13MP camera with 5 element Samsung lens and F/2.0 aperture size. The camera is capable of taking FHD videos. The front camera is a 5 MP shooter and pretty good for taking selfies.
Verdict – Xiaomi Mi4i vs. Asus Zenphone 2
Both the smartphones are pretty good and pack good processor and RAM. The Full HD Display is standard on both smartphones along with the latest Android Lollipop OS. The Zenphone scores are good in gaming and performance with fluid UI and powerful processor.
The Xiaomi Mi4i offers good camera and lightweight smartphone with 5.0-inch screen. If you are fed-up with phablets, you can go ahead with the Xiaomi Mi4i but if you love the big screen smartphones which are difficult to put in jean pockets, the 5.5 inch Asus Zenphone 2 is the way to go.
