Xiaomi has revealed a new budget smartphone named as the“Redmi 3x,” which is a competition to recently launched, ” Xioami Redmi 3s.” Naming convention for the Xiaomi devices are getting as confusing as it can be, with Redmi Note 3 series also having it’s own variants.
“X” and “S” are the most common and confusing suffixes widely used by most smartphone manufacturers currently. Both the Xiaomi Redmi 3S and the Redmi 3X have almost similar specs and is likely that Xiaomi will launch one of these models in India and other global markets to replace the ageing Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime.
The Xiaomi Redmi 3X is a dual sim phone with massive 4100 mAh battery priced affordably at CNY 899 (₹9,000). The smartphone is yet launched in China and availability outside China is so far not known.
The phone sports the same design from Redmi 3S and has the same placement for the camera module and flash. The phone sports a metal uni-body design with curved edges and a fingerprint scanner at the back side. Overall design looks very similar to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which is already available in India but the Redmi 3X comes with a smaller screen size.

The speaker is also placed at the back. The front side has the 3 back-light off screen navigation keys. It sports the standard Micro USB port at the bottom.
The phone measures at 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm which is marginally thinner than the Xaiomi Redmi Note 3. The phone is certainly heavy weighing at 146g which 2g heavier than Redmi 3s.
The Xaiomi Redmi 3X has a 5 inch IPS HD 720p display and does not come with curved glass. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 430 SoC clocked at 1.1 Ghz paired with Adreno 505 GPU.
The Redmi 3X comes in only one variant with 2 GB of RAM. It has a decent 32 GB of inbuilt storage which can further be expandable upto 128GB.
Redmi 3x sports a 13 MP rear camera with PDAF (phase detection auto-focus), f/2.0 aperture lens and offers HDR mode, 1080p video recording, and a LED flash. It comes with a 5 MP front camera which is surprisingly capable of recording upto 1080p.
Powering the phone is the huge 4100mAh battery similar to the Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 3.
The connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth, Glonass, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. However the OS on the smartphone is not the latest, it comes with the Android Lollipop 5.1 along with MIUI 7 on top.
The phone is aggressively priced at CNY 899 (₹9,000) in China and exclusive to Chinese mobile carrier, China Unicom. It’ll be available in two color options Gold and Silver.
