Xiaomi has launched the new mobile called as Xiaomi Redmi 5A, in China. The Redmi 5A is the successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 4A which is also available in India priced at Rs. 5,999. The new Redmi 5A comes with a price tag of CNY 599 (Rs. 5900) and is already available in China for pre-order.
The new Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with an improved design and has a metallic back cover compared to a poly-plastic casing present on the Redmi 4A.
The design is more curved with rounded corners compared to the current phone and it looks more pleasing and refined. The hardware specs are mostly same as the Redmi 4A with minor changes.
The Redmi 5A is a lightweight smartphone and weighs just 137 grams and uses a much lighter metal-like material. (Though it weighs more than Redmi 4A – 132 grams.) The mobile runs on the latest Xiaomi MIUI 9.0 along with the Android Nougat 7.1.
It comes with features like a smart App launcher, Xiaomi Smart Assistant, Image search, Quick reply and a more advanced notification management.
The mobile comes with 13 Megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture along with Autofocus support and HDR mode. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera which comes with f/2.2 aperture. Both the cameras are similar to the Redmi 4A.
The Redmi 5A is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Quad-Core Processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and comes with the Adreno 308 GPU.
Xiaomi has only launched the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage version of the device which comes with a hybrid sim slot that can house a memory card up to 128 GB capacity. Maybe the company will launch the 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage version at a later date.
The Redmi 5A comes with a 5.0 Inch display with HD (1280*720)pixels resolution and 292 PPi. There is no 2.5D curve glass present on this budget mobile.
The mobile comes with a 3000 mAH capacity battery which is a slight downgrade compared to 3120 mAH battery capacity found on the Xiaomi Redmi 4A. The battery don’t come with fast charging support as is the case with the Redmi 4A.
The is Dual Sim, 4G VOLTE, Micro-USB and other standard connectivity options like Bluetooth, WIFI and 3G/2G present on the device. However, the Redmi 5A also misses on the fingerprint scanner like the Redmi 4A.
Though Xiaomi has not explicitly mentioned when they will bring the Redmi 5A to the Indian market, India is a very important market for the company and they are likely to upgrade the Redmi 4A may be a couple of months down the line.
