The discount makes the lower version very attractive for budget mobile buyers and the best deal you can get in the sub 5k price range. The phone will be available in Gold, Rose Gold and Grey color starting 7th December at 12:00 pm.
You can expect a huge demand for the lower variant which may become out of stock in seconds on launch day. So gear yourself using both app and website to purchase it if you want to have early access to the Redmi 5A.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A Specs and Features
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is different when compared to the Xiaomi Redmi 4A in several ways, firstly, the design is more curved compared to the boxy looks of the Redmi 4A. Overall build quality and finish are also improved compared to the predecessor.
The new Xiaomi Redmi 5A will come with a 5.0 HD Display (1280*720) pixels, but it does not have the 2.5D curved glass which is present on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and other high-end Xiaomi mobiles. The display comes with a reading mode and also has a blue light filter.
The Redmi 5A comes with polycarbonate build with a metallic surface finish; it is hard to tell that it is not metallic, even if you look closely. The mobile has capacitive front keys and no home button. Also, the Redmi 5A lacks the fingerprint scanner which is found on Redmi 4.
Performance and Camera
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. The processor is accompanied by the Adreno 308 GPU, to take care of gaming needs. It is the same processor Xiaomi has used in the Redmi 4A, which I reviewed a few weeks back.
The Quad-Core processor and GPU got a score of 36,000 on Antutu benchmark, 650 on single core Geek benchmark test and 1749 on the multi-core test. Overall performance is smooth, and we can expect the same from the Redmi 5A. Can Read the Detailed Review of the Xiaomi Redmi 4A here.
The Redmi 5A camera is also same as the last gen, and the device comes with a 13 Megapixel rear camera (with f/2.2 aperture) with Auto-focus and LED Flash. Also, there is a 5 Megapixel front selfie camera with a f/2.0 aperture.
The rear camera is capable of recording 1080P videos and don’t offer any stabilization.
You can’t expect much from the camera, it works well in the daylight conditions, and really struggles in indoor and low light shots. You can also check some sample camera shots in the review mentioned above. But for Rs. 4,999 price, the camera quality, performance is fantastic.
Software, Battery, and Other Features
Moreover, the mobile comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box and also has the latest Xiaomi software – MIUI 9.0, similar to the Xiaomi Mi 5X.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with 16 GB / 32 GB of internal storage and have a storage expansion option up to 128 GB using the Micro-sd card. Interestingly, the Indian version of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A gets a dedicated second sim card slot. You can use 1 sim card and micro-sd card in slot 1, while the latter slot can use your secondary sim. (as shown in image below).
One of the Sim cards can support 4G while the other sim card will support only the 2G network. So, if you are looking for a simultaneous Dual 4G sim card support, Redmi 5A lacks it.
The smartphone has a 3000 mAH non-removable battery, with a 5 Volt and 1-ampere charger, which means the device does not have the fast charging support. The Redmi 5A is very lightweight and portable; it weighs 137 grams and has 8.35 mm thickness.
Finally, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A also supports 4G LTE / VOLTE, and will also work with the Reliance JIO sim. For the price of only Rs. 4,999, it is a killer deal, and you don’t need to think twice before buying the Redmi 5A in this price range.
