Xiaomi is spitting fire at the rivals as the company is launching one after the other new models. Recently, the company unveiled the flagship phones (Mi8, MI8 Explorer & Mi8SE) in the Chinese market.

Also, they launched the new Redmi Y2 in India couple of days back to phase out the Redmi Y1 (selfie-focused phone). Further on Tuesday, the brand refreshed its starting range line-up with the launch of new Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A.

Redmi 6A Launch and Price

Notably, the Redmi 6A is the most affordable phone from the brand and is the successor to the top-selling Redmi 5A. The phone will go on sale on 15th June in China and costs CNY 599 or Rs. 6200. We can expect Xiaomi to launch the Redmi 6A in July in India and price it close to Rs. 6000.

Key Specs and Details

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A is one of the most affordable phones in the world that boasts some killer high-end features reserved for more expensive mobiles.

Design and Display

The Redmi 6A comes with a new design which is very similar to the more expensive Redmi 6. There is a slightly curved back which looks more elegant than its predecessor and it has a full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone comes with 5.45 Inch display size which is ideal for one hand use.

Also, the phone is physically not too big and has dimensions similar to a 5.0-inch phone with 16:9 aspect ratio and 295 PPI. The display has HD+(1440*720) pixels resolution, and there is a fingerprint scanner located at the back of the device.

Noticeably, the addition of fingerprint scanner is new to the Redmi 6A and was missing on the last-gen phone in the series. The mobile measures 8.3mm in thickness and weigh 145 grams.

Xiaomi phones are known for superb performance, and Redmi 6A also comes with a new 12 Nm Mediatek Helio A22 processor that has 4 Cortex A53 cores running on 2.0 GHz clock speed.

Reportedly, it is a Quad-Core processor and comes with the IMG PowerVR GE GPU. Also, the processor is equipped with the Mediatek CorePilot Technology that ensures sustained performance over a long period of time without making the device hot.

All, I can say at the moment, it is a smaller version of the very capable Helio P60 that we have seen on the Oppo RealMe 1.

Xiaomi has only launched the 16 GB storage and 2 GB Ram version in China, but they may bring a 3GB ram and 32 GB storage version of the Redmi 6A to India at a later date.

Another key thing to note, the storage is expandable up to 256 GB using a Micro-sd card (comes with a dedicated slot).

FaceUnlocking and Xiao Ai

The phone comes with the trendy face unlocking feature that allows you to glance at your phone to start using it. Also, the Chinese version gets the Xiao AI assistant which we also seen on the phones like Redmi S2.

For imaging, it gets the standard 13 Megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. And for the selfies, there is a humble 5 MP front camera that is adequate to click selfies in broad daylight. There is even a portrait mode that uses AI to create a background blur.

Software and Battery Life

It boots MIUI 9.5 and comes with the Android Oreo 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Xiaomi has unveiled the MIUI 10 and that comes with some uber cool features and most likely these new phones can get the software update soon.

There is a 3000 mAH capacity battery that certainly lacks fast charging but is sufficient to last all day.

Lastly, the phone comes with Dual Sim Support with 4G VOLTE,  WIFI (2.4 GHz only), Bluetooth 4.2 and a micro-USB port at the bottom.
