Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime 4G launched for Rs 8499

It is not the  Redmi Note 2 Prime, which was launched in China but a toned down Indian version.

Xiaomi has unveiled the smartphone on Facebook as well on its website.  The new Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime is priced at Rs. 8499

Fans are disappointed to find out that the new smartphone is not the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime.

Fans have expressed their disappointment on the Xiaomi facebook page and have urged the company to launch the more powerful Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note which is launched in India is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor which is a starting range mobile processor. The processor is clocked at 1.2 Ghz and comes with Adreno 306 GPU.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime is powered by the Helio X10 MediaTek Octa-core processor which is a high-end processor powering smartphones like the HTC One M9.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime (India Version) is no match of for the Chinese Redmi Note 2.

The smartphone has a 5.5-inch display with  HD resolution (1280*720) with 267 PPI.

Design wise it looks similar to the Xiaomi Mi4i with a plastic body, does not give the premium feel of Mi4.

The smartphone has 2 GB RAM, essential for mulit-tasking and playing games.

There are some of the smartphones which recently were launched by competition and had 3 GB Ram like Coolpad Note 3, Intex Swift Cloud and Lava IRIS X10.

The Redmi Note Prime has 16 GB of internal storage,  which can be expanded to 32 GB using a micro-sd card.

Camera – The smartphone comes with 13 Megapixel camera at the back with f/2.2 aperture and five element lens with fast focus and led flash. As per Xiaomi, the camera can focus for 0.1 seconds.

The front camera comes with a five-megapixel camera, with beautify mode.

The smartphone runs on the legacy  Android KitKat OS along with the custom MIUI 7.0 which bring many enhancements like improved gallery app and extended battery life compared to the MIUI 6.0.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime comes with a large battery capacity of 3100 mAH, which is more than sufficient to last all day long.

The smartphone measures 9.45 mm while the older Note had a 9.5 mm thickness. The smartphone weighs 182 grams which is heavy considering the 5.5-inch display size and not very large capacity battery.

For the price of Rs. 8499 it is an okay deal, misses on the Android Lollipop and the Full HD Display, even has a mediocre processor by Xiaomi’s standards. While fans expected the exotic Xioami Redmi Note 2 to launch in India, they may have to contend with Redmi Note Prime.

  1. I want a smartphone. Price range is 8500. Please suggest. And try that it will available on amazon. Because only amazon delivers the product at my location.

  2. That’s nothing more than a slightly upgraded Redmi 2 Prime.
And will the Chinese version of this phone ever launch in India?

    • So far no updates by Xiaomi on the Chinese version actually they also have the Mi4i in India which is selling at a price point we could have expected the Redmi Note 2 prime to debut in India

    • The price of Mi4i by slashed off by 1k by Xiaomi recently. So, shouldn’t the expected price of Redmi note 2 prime be as the initial price of Mi4i i.e. 12999.
In fact, many would have thought that the reason behind the price slash could be the release of Redmi Note 2 Prime.

    • They Will become competing models in close price range and they may have to even drop the price a little more to sell the Mi4i in case Xiaomi plan to launch the Redmi Note 2 Prime in India.

    • If they ever plan to release it at the price tag of around 13k, then, no chance, anyone is gonna buy Mi4i.
