Xiaomi has shared that they are going to launch a new smartphone in India on 19th January 2017. The new smartphone is expected to be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. The mobile was launched in China on 25th August 2016. It is the successor to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone which has been a run away success in India.
There were 2 models launched in China and we can expect Xiaomi to launch both the models in India too.
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 – 2 GB ram and 16 GB storage.
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 – 3 GB Ram and 64 Gb storage.
The lower model was launched for CNY 899 we can expect India price to be Rs 9,999 while the higher variant was launched at CNY 1199, we can expect it to launch for Rs 12,999 in India. The base version can get a price of Rs. 9,999 for the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage version, considering the Redmi Note 3 is similarly priced and may get phased out once new phone is launched. Also it cant be below this as they already have the Xiaomi Redmi 3S prime selling at Rs. 8,999.
The Redmi Note 4 comes with a 2.5 D curve glass screen with 5.5 inch Full HD Display.
There was no 2.5 D glass on the Redmi note 3. The display has 72% NTSC color gamut and 1000:1 contrast ratio. Another major upgrade vs the Redmi Note 3 is more premium metallic build quality.
The smartphone comes with Deca Core Mediatek Helio X20 processor and Mali T880 MP4 GPU in China. Performance wise the smartphone is a match for Redmi Note 3, it scored 85,000 on the Antutu benchmark. Slightly more than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
In India Xiaomi has a patent dispute with Ericsson due to which they can’t launch any Mediatek Processor powered smartphone in the Indian market. It is not yet clear whether they have settled the dispute with Ericsson. (Xiaomi with drew the launch of Xiaomi Note 3G back in 2015) after which they have not launched any Mediatek processor powered smartphone. The smartphone can come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 or Snapdragon 652 processor.
In case they use the Snapdragon 652/653 SOC it will be an upgrade compared to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 otherwise the 625 is comparatively weaker than Snapdragon 650 used in the Redmi Note 3.
There are also rumors that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is going to launch in China in April powered by the Snapdragon 653, so it is unclear what Xiaomi would be using in the upcoming beast in India.
The Redmi Note 4 comes with 4100 mAH battery capacity which is sufficient to last all day with ease.
The smartphone has 13 megapixel rear camera with fast autofocus and comes with F/2.0 aperture lens. There is Phase detection autofocus and dual led flash. There is a 5 mega pixel front selfie camera.
The Redmi Note 4 runs on the Android Marshmallow 6.0 along the Xiaomi MIUI 8.0 skin on top. The smartphone will come with support for 4G LTE as well as VOLTE data networks.
The Redmi Note 4 comes with 8.35 mm thickness and weighs 170 grams which is passable considering the battery capacity.
The smartphone will surely be a rage among the Xiaomi fans in India. Also it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi will continue to sell the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 in Indian market, or will shut door on their top selling smartphone.
