Updated – 19/Nov/2017 – While Xiaomi has seen a meteoric rise in the Indian market, thanks to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. We are already hearing news of a possible launch of Note 5 in China in coming days.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is spotted on the TENAA, Chinese telecommunication certification website. Earlier there were reports that the phone is also spotted on the US FCC certification website.

Though the certification website has not mentioned the name of the device, it is alleged to be the “Xiaomi Redmi Note 5”. The Redmi Note 5 (codenamed as MET7/MEE7) alleged specs and price information is also leaked on Weibo (Chinese social Media Website).

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to arrive in November 2017. The smartphone will release first in China and then will be launched in other Asian markets including India.

As per the above image, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will come with the 18:9 aspect ratio which is quite popular these days, and also looks like a significant upgrade compared to the Redmi Note 4.

The device is expected to have a 5.99 Inch Full HD + (2160*1080) pixels display with a 2.5D curved glass coating on top of it. The back side looks similar to its predecessor, offers a single camera and fingerprint scanner.

The metallic phone uses the white front panel and has the golden back cover with visible antenna lines.

Redmi Note 5 Can Be Powered by Snapdragon 630

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will come with either Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor or will be powered by the Snapdragon 630 chipset, similar to the recently released Motorola Moto X4.

Qualcomm has also recently released the Snapdragon 636 which is the successor to the SD 630 and is about 40% more powerful, as per Qualcomm. It SD 636 is an Octa-Core Processor, based on 14 Nm process.

There is also new Adreno 509 GPU, which also offers improved performance in games. The GPU promises 10% boost Vs. the Adreno 508.

There is a lot of divided opinion about the exact SOC being used by Xiaomi, but it is clear it will be from the SD 600 series, not a MediaTek chipset.

Xiaomi recently launched the Xioami Mi Max 2 and the Xiaomi Mi A1 powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which is also a step down compared to the Mi Max which came with Snapdragon 653 SOC.

My bet is Xiaomi will likely to ship it with the Snapdragon 630 processor, as the SD 625 is now almost 1.5 years old.

The Redmi Note 5 will offer 32 GB / 64 GB storage and will have 4 GB of Ram.

No Dual Rear Cameras

The camera is alleged to be improved compared to the Redmi Note 4; the new device comes with a 12 MP rear camera with superior autofocus and a much better sensor. Notably, there is the absence of Dual rear camera at the back like the Mi A1.

The front camera will be 5 Megapixel or 8 Megapixel to click selfies.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 To Launch In China

The Redmi Note 5 will feature the new Xiaomi MiUI 9.0 along with the Android Nougat 7.1 OS. The battery capacity will essentially remain same, with 4000 mAH Li-ion battery.

The Redmi Note 5 will come with Dual Sim support, a fingerprint scanner at the back, and 4G VOLTE connectivity options.

The smartphone will also have a USB type C port and support for Quick Charge 3.0. It is also likely to have support for NFC and mobile payments as the trend is catching fast in China.

The smartphone is allegedly priced at CNY 1199 for the 32 GB version, and 64 GB version will cost CNY 1399. Xiaomi has recently refreshed the Xiaomi Redmi 4A and launched the Redmi 5A in China.

Xiaomi is also focused more than ever on the Indian market, the recent launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and the Mi A1 proves that the company is aiming to beat  Samsung in the Indian market.
