The Redmi Note 4 was launched in India back in January 2017, and almost a year later it gets a refresh.

Let’s check out the essential details about the new Redmi Note 5.

Price and Availability

For starters, the Redmi Note 5 comes in two variants:

  1. The 32 GB Storage and 3 GB Ram, price Rs. 9,999.
  2. The 64 GB Storage and 4 GB Ram, price Rs. 11,999.

Going by the price, it is similar to the Note 4 and Xiaomi has kept the price rationale for both the versions. You can’t be wrong choosing either of these. In fact, for additional Rs. 2000 you are getting a good upgrade both in terms of Ram and storage.

Also, the device will go on sale on both the mi.com and Flipkart starting 22 February (Thursday) @ 12:00 pm (noon) in India.

Display

First things first, the new phone comes with an FHD+ (2160*1080 pixels) bezel-less display, perhaps the most significant upgrade in comparison to its predecessor.

The bezel-less display is becoming ubiquitous and latest phones will have this essential feature. Notably, most popular budget phones like Infocus Vision 3 and Infinix Hot S4 offer this voguish feature.

Besides, the 5.99 Inch display, comes with 84% NTSC and 450 nits maximum brightness.

Moreover, if you observe the display, it has rounded corners, like the LG G6, which improves display strength and prevents it from breaking easily.

Further, the company says it has Corning Gorilla Glass protection and 2.5D curved glass.

Design

The front side, as we know comes with the 18:9 bezel-free display and is mostly the screen.

The back side looks similar to the older Redmi Note 4 with a familiar camera and fingerprint placement.

The back cover is metallic and looks premium and robust. The phone is available in 4 color choices black, gold, rose gold and refreshing blue color.

At the top, there is IR sensor and 3.5 mm audio jack whereas, the bottom side has a micro-USB port and speaker grill.

Unlike the Mi A1, Xiaomi is not switching to the USB Type C port on the Redmi Note 4.

The phone weighs 180 grams and measures 8.05 mm in thickness.

Performance

There are no upgrades to performance, and it comes with the Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 1.8 GHz clock speed.
Also, there is Adreno 506 GPU which is fast as well as efficient.

A lot of leaks pointed that Xiaomi may use the Snapdragon 630 in the Note 5, but it still comes with the old SD 625.

Aforementioned, it comes with either 3 GB ram or 4 GB ram.

Camera

The Note 5 comes with an improved camera in comparison to the Redmi Note 4.

For photography, it comes with a 12-megapixel single rear shooter with a 1.25μm large pixel, 5-element lens, and ƒ/2.2 aperture.

Moreover, it comes with the popular Face Unlocking feature like the Oneplus 5T or the Oppo F5.

Post-iPhone X launch, the face unlocking is gaining more traction, and most future phones are bound to use it or even more cutting edge in display fingerprint scanning technology.

For selfies, it comes with a standard 5-megapixel camera with dedicated LED flash and Beautify-mode 4.0.

Battery Life

Xiaomi always focuses on providing adequate battery life and Note 5 is no different as it comes with a hefty 4000 mAH capacity battery.

However, it is 100 mAH lower in comparison to its predecessor but nothing to worry. You can easily use this device with all day without a need for charging.

Additionally, it comes with a 5V/2A charger without fast charging support.

OS and Features

The phone runs on the MIUI 9.2 along with the Android Nougat 7.1.1 and may get the Android Oreo update in the coming months.

Xiaomi in a recent Twitter poll was embarrassed when they asked people which is better between Stock Android and MIUI? In fact, more users want the stock Android experience in comparison to MIUI.

Connectivity

The bad news is it comes with a hybrid sim slot so that you can use 1 sim along with the memory card or 2 sims without the micro-sd card.

Moreover, it has all essential connectivity options like 2G/3G/4G/ VOLTE, WIFI, and Bluetooth 4.2.
