Xiaomi Redmi Y3 – 32 MP AI Selfie Camera launched in India
Yesterday, Xiaomi has launched the new selfie-focused Redmi Y3, at an event in New Delhi, India. It is the successor to the Redmi Y1 and comes with improved specs and camera capabilities.
Mr. Manu Kumar Jain, head of Xiaomi India, shared many new updates about the brand as well as the new Selfie King from the company.
Xiaomi now has 50% market share and is the market leader as far as the online sale are concerned while in the physical retail segment Xiaomi it has a 20% share.
Realme has emerged has the second most selling brand in online sales and commands over 8% share, followed by Samsung India.
Xiaomi Redmi Y3 Availability, Price and Colors
To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y2 in India back in June 2018 and now after 10 months, the refreshed model is launched by the company.
The phone is launched in two variants in the Indian market, 32 GB / 3 GB Ram version costs Rs. 9,999 while the 4 GB /64 version will set you back by Rs. 11,999.
The Redmi Y3 comes with Bold Red, Elegant Blue, and Prime Black color and will go on sale starting 30th April 2019 on Amazon.in and Mi.com and Mi home stores.
Pricing looks aggressive as always and the phone is bound to do well in this selfie obsessed market.
Xiaomi is now hitting Vivo and Oppo where it hurts the most with the new big selfie camera phones.
Let’s have a look at what Redmi Y3 has to offer to the Indian buyers.
For starters, the Redmi Y3 comes with an insane 32 Megapixel front selfie camera that comes with 0.8-micron pixel size and an f/2.2 aperture.
The sensor combines four smaller pixels to form a large pixel for capturing more light during the low light conditions. Besides, it comes with AI camera with portrait mode, smart beautification, and Front HDR.
The front camera offers beautify 4.0, AI Portrait mode, EIS, screen flash.
Also, The front camera is capable of recognizing faces to unlock the device using face unlock technology.
At the back, it has Dual rear cameras to click photos with portrait mode.
However, the primary lens has 12 MP resolution ( f/2.2 aperture) while the second lens has a 2 MP resolution. There is a Dual Led flash, portrait mode and HDR support for the rear cameras.
Notably, the Redmi Y2 came with a 5 MP secondary sensor.
The camera can record 1080P videos with 60FPS but doesn’t have 4K video support. Also, the rear camera comes with EIS support and can record 120 FPS slow-motion video.
The phone has a polycarbonate build with a dual tone surface finish and has auro prism design. Besides, there is a finger scanner that resides at the back; the front side has a minimalistic design and offers the waterdrop notch.
The phone weighs 180 grams and has a thickness of 8.47 mm.
Another key highlight of the device is its 6.26 inches, 19.5:9 aspect ratio display that comes with HD+ (1540*720 pixels) resolution. Notably, it comes with a slightly 84% NTSC Color Gamut and the screen has a maximum brightness of 450 nits.

Further, the display comes with a waterdrop notch and has a screen to body ratio of 86%. You can adjust the experience using sunlight mode, night mode, and color temperature settings.
The Redmi Y3 runs on MIUI 10.2 along with the Android Pie 9.0 OS out of the box. The user experience is smooth and you can expect good performance in day to day tasks.
Powering the phone is tried and tested Snapdragon 632 Octa-Core processor that comes with Adreno 506 GPU. Now the Snapdragon 632 is not the most powerful processor in the price range but offers decent perforamance as it scores close to 100,324 on the Antutu benchmark.
Aforementioned it comes with either 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage or 4 GB Ram / 64 GB storage.
Also, it offers dual sim support and even has a dedicated memory card slot to expand the storage up to 256 GB. The phone comes with the DDR3 ram instead of the DDR4 and even has the legacy emmc 5.1 storage instead of faster UFS.
Further, it comes with standard connectivity options such as Dual Sim, 4G VOLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB port and even has the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Lastly, the phone runs on a 4000 mAH capacity battery that is sufficient to last it all day. We get a 10 Watts charger in the box and it is not blazing fast.
