If you thought that tablets are already dead and no one is buying them, you and Xiaomi don’t agree. Xiaomi has just refreshed the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 and launched the new Mi Pad 3 in China priced at CNY 1499 (approx Rs 14300).
The original Xiaomi Mi Pad came in March 2014 and it was made of polyplastic, powered by the Nvidia Kepler based Tegra K1 processor. It was an ideal solution for gaming and consuming media with a stunning display offering 2048*1536 resolution.
A year and a half later in November 2015, Xiaomi refreshed the Mi Pad and launched the Mi Pad 2 with some improvements. The Mi Pad 2 came with a metallic design and was powered by the Intel Atom X5 processor. The new metallic Mi Pad 2 also came with support for Windows 10 apart from Android.
This year Xiaomi has kept most of the things same, including the metallic design. The new Mi Pad 3 was recently unveiled in China and there is yet no word about the availability of the device outside China.
The new Tablet comes in Champagne Gold color and features a 7.9 inch display with 2048*1536 pixels with a pixel density of 326 PPi. Pretty impressive for an affordable tablet. The new Mi Pad 3 comes with 200.4 x 132.6 x 7 mm dimensions and weighs (328 grams) just afew grams more compared to the Mi Pad 2.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 comes with a Mediatek 8176 Chipset. It is viewed as a downgrade as most Mi fans were expecting either an Intel or Snapdragon processor. Howerver, the new 6 Core processor has 2 Cores clocked at 2.1 Ghz (Cortex A72 Cores) and remaining 4 Cores clocked at 1.7 GHz (Cortex A53).
For handing the Graphics intensive tasks and playing games there is PowerVR GX6250 GPU.
The Mi Pad 3 comes with 4 GB of Ram which is twice the amount found in the Mi Pad. The Mi pad 3 runs on the Android Marshmallow 6.0 along with the MIUI 8.0.
The other notable improvement is the battery capacity which is 10% higher compared to the Mi pad 2. The Mi Pad 3 comes with 6600 mAH Capacity battery which offers 867 hours of standby and 12 hours of multimedia consumption.
The rear camera also has got an upgrade to 13 Mega pixel with f2.2 aperture lens while the front side still has a 5 Mega pixel shooter for video calls. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 Comes with 64 GB of internal storage and sadly there is no support for a micro-sd card.
