Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 2015 & 2016 Specs Price India

Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 2016 Specs Price India

Apple Launched the MacBook last year and it is one of the thinnest machines you can purchase in the market with amazing looks. Yesterday Apple has added more muscle to the last year’s machine while keeping the design same.

Apple MacBook 2016 is Faster and Comes in Rose Gold

The other major upgrade is the increased battery life and the availability of Apple MacBook in the Rose gold color, similar to the iPhone 6s.

The MacBook was introduced in early 2015 and got launched along with the long-standing MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. MacBook comes with a much better Retina display (compared to the MacBook Air) and also is thinner and lighter in weight.

The processor used in the last year MacBook was the Intel Core M processor which was clocked at 1.1 GHz, now the clock speed can be 1.3 GHz, depending on the configuration. The MacBook 2016 uses the Intel’s Core M 6th gen Skylake processor now.

The M series from Intel are low powered CPU’s which don’t require a fan for cooling and are ideal for the MacBook’s thin design.

The new MacBook 2016 also has a faster RAM, the clock speed is bumped up from 1600 Mhz to 1833 by Apple.  There is also an upgrade done to the SSD for the MacBook which comes with PCI-E based SSD and the speed improvements are close to 80% for the new MacBook.

With Addition of Skylake processor and other optimizations done to the MacBook, Apple is boasting an 11 hours battery life for watching movies and 10 hours while surfing the net. A great feat for a wafer-thin machine.

The MacBook 2016 is available for $1299 (Rs. 90,000) on Apple store with 8 GB RAM, 1.1 GHz Core M3 processor and 256 GB of storage. The higher variant with 1.2 GHz clock and above are available priced @ $1599 for the 512 GB version.

Apple MacBook offers great portability when compared to the MacBook Pro (my personal favorite) but lacks in the performance if you wish to work on applications like Photoshop or the Final Cut Pro. The MacBook has been copied by LG and even HP for some of the models they released during the CES 2016.

The current upgrades make the MacBook at least 20% faster compared to the older one.  It gives plenty of reasons to purchase for people looking for a gorgeous, head turning, rose gold notebook.

Apple MacBook Air Gets Ram Upgrade to 8 GB

One of the biggest concern for the MacBook Air buyers was the 4 GB RAM.  Though there were models available in US which came with 8 GB of RAM, in India the MacBook Air was available only in the 4 GB variant.

The 4 GB ram variant was not ideal for purchase even in last year.  Finally, Apple has listened to the fans and upgraded the base model from 4 GB to 8 GB.  Now you will not have to worry about the multi-tasking performance, and it is going to be much better value for money and future proof.

The 13 inch model of the MacBook Air has got the upgrade while the 11 inch MacBook Air model continues to come with 4 GB RAM. It is also likely that Apple may increase the display resolution on the 13 inches MacBook Air this year.

The display resolution on the MacBook Air is really low and comes with (1440*900) pixels, which should be at least Full HD now.

10 Reasons to Upgrade to New MacBook Pro 2016

Apple announced brand new MacBook Pro models at an event in San Francisco on 27th of the October. Three variants were announced during the event. MacBook Pro 13 inch and 15-inch models come with innovative Touch Bar, Touch ID & better TrackPad and Keyboard. The audio jack is still there whereas all that is left for connectivity are 4 USB Type C Thunderbolt (3) ports.

10 Reasons to Upgrade to New MacBook Pro 2016

There are many more important upgrades in the MacBook pro which makes it worthy of an upgrade. Below are the most important and noteworthy of all:

10 Reasons to Upgrade to New MacBook Pro 2016

1). Touch Bar: Apple now includes a versatile strip made of the retina display, multi-touch that also responds to the gestures and includes functions like Wifi connectivity, favorites tab. But it’s function doesn’t end there. The touch bar reportedly adapts to the software displayed on the screen, you will be able to use Special functions. For example, when you open safari, the keys on the touchpad change to a new tab, favorites, back, forward, reload etc.

When you use the keyboard, the touch bar will display words based on the predictions to help you type more easily and faster. When you open up gallery, you will see a preview of the photos on the touch bar itself. Apart from these functions, the touch bar has a dedicated key for the virtual assistant, Siri. The functions displayed on the touch bar are customizable based on your choice.

2). Touch ID: The all-new MacBook Pro comes with Touch ID. It is integrated with the power button and supported by second gen touch id. Apart from this, the Touch ID is supported with the Apple T1 chip includes secure enclave which means you can make any Apple purchase with your fingers on the MacBook Pro within seconds. Also if your MacBook is shared by someone else, it takes seconds to log in to another account using Touch ID.

3). Display: The MacBook Pro comes with best-ever retina display which is a precisely designed led multi-layered display to produce a remarkably bright, high contrast picture with a wider color gamut. The performance of the display is to produce remarkable results with over 67% higher brightness, greater contrast ratio which displays wider colour and 25% greater color gamut. Above all this, the display is as sleeker as that of a 12-inch MacBook and consumes very less power.

4). Processor: The 15-inch MacBook Pro packs an Intel Core i7, 6th Generation, Quad-core processor and is clubbed with High-Speed DDR4 Ram to ensure better performance. Though we would have liked Apple to use the 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors which are already in the market.

5). USB Type C Ports: Though the audio jack is untouched in the all-new MacBook, all the connectivity ports are now Thunderbolt USB Type C 3.1 2nd gen ports. That means all the four ports can be used for power, USB, Display Port, HDMI, VGA. Each Thunderbolt 3 port can be connected to a 5K Ultra HD display, speakers, camera and microphones all of them through just a single port and can also be charged through this port itself acting as a docking station. Besides, each port can also connect to nearly 96 TB arrayed storage devices.

6). Internal Thermal Design: To maintain the temperature inside such a powerful machine, the MacBook Pro comes with all new thermal architecture. It is provided with new thermal heat pipes. The fans are provided with new, innovative fan blades making the system much cooler and quieter as well. The sound system is also boosted up considerably with the help of this new architecture. The speakers are put in a way that takes up lesser space and put out more volume and fidelity to fill up your room with more dynamic range.

7). Keyboard & Trackpad: The Trackpad is twice as large as that of the older MacBook which means more space for the gestures. The keyboard is also elevated. It is pioneered with 2nd gen butterfly switch mechanism, an improved version of that used on the 12 inch MacBook. This keyboard feels more sensitive, soft and more responsive.

8). Size, Volume, Thickness & Weight: The thickness of the 15 inch variant of the MacBook variant is reduced by 14% making it 15.5 mm thick which results in 20% lesser value. This in return lessened the weight by 1 pound which means, 15 inch Macbook pro weighs just 4 pounds. Whereas the 13-inch variant’s thickness is brought down by 17% making it just 14.9 mm, as same as the MacBook Air. This helped in a 23% reduction in volume and half a pound lesser weight, weighing 3 pounds.

9). Performance: With all the upgrades mentioned above, the performance is to elevate magnificently. The specifications suggest a 130% faster & better performance in 3D graphics, 60% better performance in gaming segment and 57% faster performance in video editing for the 15-inch variant. For the 13 inch variant, 76% faster performance in 3D graphics, 76% faster performance in video editing and 103% faster performance while gaming. Apart from these, the USBC ports can manage up to a 40 GBPS bandwidth and 10 GBPS transfer rate for the storage.

  • Apart from the two 15 & 13-inch variants of Macbook pro, another 13-inch non-touch bar Macbook pro is also being offered with better performance and as thin as a MacBook Air.

10) Radeon PRO 400 GPU – The graphics processor for the 15-inch variant is Radeon pro( up to 4 GB) with Polaris architecture whereas the 13-inch variant comes with Intel IRIS graphics, 64 MB SDRAM. These processes are sure to boost up the performance incomparably.

MacBook Pro is estimated to be 6.8 million times faster than Apple’s first ever computer. Yes it is expensive, and not everyone can own one, but once you have used a MacBook Pro, no other laptop will feel as perfect as is the Mac.

AMD Radeon PRO 400 Series Debut in MacBook Pro 2016 – Excellent Move

There is a lot of criticism about the new Apple MacBook Pro 2016. From the exorbitant price tag to the removal of the mag-safe port. The illuminated Apple Logo on the back is missing and even the ding sound at the start has vanished.

Apple has made it thinner than it is required by most. Replacing the fantastic keyboard and adding the fancy touch bar. A lot of changes have been criticized. Not every change fits the need of every Mac user.

In fact lot of people would have wanted a less expensive MacBook Air with Full HD display and a bit thinner bezels. That would have been a great device if you wanted to do all the basic stuff.

AMD Radeon PRO 400 Series Debut in MacBook Pro 2016 - Excellent Move

Apple doesn’t want to sell a cheaper MacBook Air but wants you to buy the base model of MacBook Pro, which is listed at 1.3 Lakh.

Very few people can buy that, especially in developing countries like India. Enough rant let’s get to the good part.

The Good Part

Apple has made many good changes in the new MacBook Pro 2016. My top picks are – AMD PRO 400 series graphics card, Intel 6th Gen Processors and the touch bar.

AMD Radeon PRO 400 Series Debut in MacBook Pro 2016 - Excellent Move

The AMD Radeon PRO 400 series is finally unveiled by Raj Kodouri, head of Radeon technologies and it looks impressive.

There is Radeon PRO 450, 455 and 460 graphics card which you can have with the MacBook Pro 2016. The 450 and 455 come with 2 GB of VRAM and the 460 can be custom configured and comes with 4 GB of VRAM. AMD is calling these as “Creators on the Go”.

The Radeon Pro series is not meant for Gamers, but it is targeted at the creators. People looking for a powerful solution to run software like Adobe suite (premiere pro, after effects etc).  The Radeon Pro series is optimized to work better with creative Apps and offer faster rendering in comparison to the other graphics cards optimized for playing games.

I have a strong feeling that Apple may use Radeon Pro in the iMac too when they update them in near future. Currently, iMac comes with AMD R9 390 and 380 series graphics cards.

Apple also rolled out a massive update for the Final Cut Pro X which will again get benefit from the Radeon Pro series cards.

The Radeon Pro Series cards work flawlessly for video editing and can work on 4K video edits with ease. The Polaris architecture based Radeon Pro series is manufactured with the cutting edge 14Nm FinFET process.

Check the video released by AMD below.

Meet the Radeon Creators

The Radeon Pro 460 offers 1.86 T Flops performance, has 16 Compute Units and 1024 stream processors.  The graphics card offers 80 GB/s memory bandwidth.

The Radeon Pro 455 offers 1.3 T Flops performance, has 12 Compute Units and 768 stream processors.  The graphics card offers 80 GB/s memory bandwidth.

The Radeon Pro 450 offers 1.0 T Flops performance, has 10 Compute Units and 640 stream processors.  The graphics card offers 80 GB/s memory bandwidth.

AMD Radeon PRO 400 Series Debut in MacBook Pro 2016 - Excellent Move

While I expected Apple to use the Nvidia’s new Pascal series GTX 1050 and GTX 1060 graphics cards, they have gone with the AMD solution.

The reason why Apple is going with the Radeon Pro 400 series is that people use MacBook Pro mostly for content creation rather than for gaming. The new MacBook Pro can get the necessary performance boost from the AMD cards in comparison to the GTX 10 series for video editing.

Paired with the Intel 6th Gen Skylake Processors the new MacBook Pro 2016 can deliver much-improved performance for content creators.

Apple Increases Prices for old Macbook in India

In another clever move, Apple has suddenly increased the price for the Apple MacBook line up in India by up to Rs. 10,000. The move comes ahead of the start of sale for the 2016 MacBook Pro line up. To make the older Notebooks less attractive Apple has made the price changes.
