The Taiwanese tech giant has launched 2 new smartphones in the Indian market – Asus ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro.
Asus ROG Phone 5s and Asus ROG Phone 5s PRO
The new Asus phones have a gaming-centric design as they have used in the previous ROG phones that include a cool LED animation design at the back (on the Pro version). The front side has thin bezels at the top (houses the selfie camera).
Variants & Price
The Asus ROG Phone 5s is available exclusively on Flipkart starting 18th February 2022.
The 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage ROG Phone 5s costs Rs. 49,999 and the 12 GB ram and 256 GB Storage version costs Rs. 57,999.
The ROG Phone 5s Pro is available in a single variant (18 GB Ram and 512 GB Storage) and it costs Rs. 79,999. The ROG Phone 5s is available in white or black color options whereas the ROG Phone 5s Pro is available only in Black color.
Let’s have look at key features and specs for both phones.
Design
The ROG Phone 5s comes with a cyberpunky retro 8-bit pixel dot design at the rear. The RGB logo also has two lighting zones that provide cool looks and even show the notification light.
The ROG Phone 5 weighs about 238 grams and also has a thickness close to 10 mm. The phone comes with vapor chamber cooling and has the chipset in the middle, along with two batteries on each side. It has dual batteries forming a massive 6000 mAH capacity.
The huge 6000 mAH battery adds to the enormous weight and can cause fatigue.
The LED backlights of the phone are similar to something we have seen on the Asus G14 laptop.
Overall the build quality on the previous ROG phones has been robust, and the ROG 5s is also well built.
Performance & Operating system
For incredible performance, the ROG Phone 5s/ 5s Pro is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ (SM8350) Octa-core processor fabricated on a 5nm chipset that offers a 2.84Ghz clock speed and up to 25% increased CPU performance.
Furthermore, it comes with an Adreno 660 GPU that is excellent for gaming and can easily max out games like PUBG New State, Genshin Impact, or Fortnite.
Thanks to the advanced vapor chamber cooling, the phone runs cool and has an excellent sustained performance in gaming and heavy tasks.
We have got the latest Android 11 operating system based on the ROG UI. Also, Asus gives us an option to switch UI from the ROG to the stock experience.
I have used both the ROG Phone II and ROG Phone 3 for quite a long time, and the UI feels good and neat with minimal bloatware.
Display
The ROG Phone 5s/ 5s Pro comes with an AMOLED panel having a 6.78 screen size along with an FHD+ 1080P pixels resolution, 1200nits brightness, and 144Hz refresh rate.
Furthermore, the display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and also has HDR10+ support. The Pro version also features a small PMOLED display at the back.
Audio, Connectivity & other features
It comes with dual 7 magnet speakers for balanced stereo audio and even comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack for audiophiles.
The phone has dedicated DAC support, and you will get excellent audio when using both wireless and wired headphones. In fact, it is one of the rare flagship devices that comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Additionally, the Haptic feedback feature and vibrations make the gaming experience more realistic and immersive.
For your full control over gaming, it offers Airtrigger 5 on the right side of the phone and even comes with the 10 gesture control. Air triggers are pretty impressive and offer you an edge in mobile games such as PUBG.
Aforementioned, the ROG Phone 5 comes with a dual 3000mAH battery which together offers a massive 6000mAH battery capacity.
For charging the battery, the Asus offers a 30 Watts superfast charger(which can charge it from 0-50% in just 30 minutes).
It comes with a side-mounted Type-C charging port for connecting accessories like Aero Cooler and also there is a Type C port at the bottom for charging and data transfer.
Notably, the ROG Phone 5s lacks wireless charging. It also doesn’t offer an IP rating making it prone to water damage.
Camera
The Gaming monster comes with impressive cameras that we have earlier seen on the ROG Phone 5. There is a 64MP(f/1.8) SONY IMX686 main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro lens.
It can do video recordings up to 8K video resolution at 30 frames per second.
At the front, the ROG Phone 5 has a 24MP (f/2.45) front-facing camera for selfies.
Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro
The ROG Phone 5 Pro comes with a 64 x 256 color display at the back, and it is fully customizable and can show many animations based on your system events or as per your choice.
Also, it comes with two extra Airtrigger buttons at the rear of the phone so that you get good control over your game. The Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro comes with 18GB RAM and 512GB onboard storage and Rs. 79,999.
