The Google Pixel XL, by far is my favorite smartphone of 2016, as it impressed me in every aspect, except the design. Google has confirmed they are working on a Pixel successor and is likely to be called Pixel 2.
Google’s braveness to compete with the heavyweights such as Apple and Samsung paid off with the Pixel phones, but the first generation Pixel phones were overpriced, by a far margin, which no one expected from Google as the Nexus phones used to deliver top-notch hardware at affordable prices.
At the recently concluded MWC 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain, Google’s Senior VP of Hardware, Rick Osterloh has confirmed that the company is working on the Google Pixel 2. He quoted as follows: “You can count on a successor this year, even if you don’t hear a date from me now.”
Affordable Upcoming Google Pixel Phone
So, it is now confirmed that the Pixel will get a successor. Also, at the same time, he confirmed that the Pixel lineup would stay premium. Just after this news broke out, a new rumor came out online saying that Google is working on an affordable Pixel or Android One phone, which will also be announced alongside the Pixel 2.
The affordable Google phone could be part of the Android One initiative that Google started couple of years back but has lost steam.
Currently, some rumors are claiming about the specifications of the Google Pixel 2 and the affordable Pixel 2B smartphone.
The Google Pixel 2, as per the rumors will house a better camera and improved design. The Pixel 2 is also said to feature water and dust resistant properties.
As of now, it is said that the Pixel 2 is being tested with various chips such as Snapdragon 835 and MediaTek high-end ones and there’s no conclusive evidence on which chip will Google prefer.
Just the other day, a rumor came out claiming that Google is planning to move away from the 3.5mm headphone jack and the Google Pixel 2 may not feature the same, which means that Google is looking to follow the footprints of Apple.
There are not many details available online regarding the Google Pixel 2B smartphone, but it is said that the phone will surely be ‘significantly cheaper’ than the bigger Pixel 2.
All said and done, the existence of the Google Pixel 2 is however confirmed. But all the other details are just rumors, so take them with a grain of salt.
