RealME Vs Xiaomi In India
Oppo’s sub-brand RealME has so far launched just a couple of phones in the market but has suddenly become the talk of the town. The obvious reason is to provide people with great hardware and offer a low price. The same formula that Xiaomi has mastered over the years to take the crown from Samsung.
Xiaomi for the first time in years is facing a tough fight in the country and that is from the Oppo’s new sub-brand Realme which has so far launched just 4 phones including the two latest devices – RealMe 2 PRO and RealMe C1.
The mobile market is insanely dynamic in India, brands like HTC, Sony, Micromax, Lava, and Lenovo which were once formidable, are now nowhere. At the same time, RealME is rising and is the new darling of the tech enthusiasts and Youtubers.
The RealME CEO Mr. Madhav Seth has mastered all the lessons taught by the rival Xiaomi and he is playing his cards right. The hype creation formula is the same that is used by Xiaomi and even by the OnePlus to make their products hero.
RealME Promotions Strategy
What is worth noting is the association and dissociation of the brand with specific influencers on Youtube to make sure that brand gets the hype. Recently, the CEO featured on the biggest Tech channel (Technical Guruji) to showcase the new RealME 2 Pro even before launch.
Add to it the several review units given to Youtubers as a free giveaway, all add up to the hype and engagement. But those, like the Popular Youtuber Ash from C4Etech, were left out by the brand due to a negative video of the earlier product (RealME 2).
There is a dilemma for Youtubers – you can collaborate with brands and enjoy free phones and units and money. And you speak against a brand and lose all that plus you won’t even get any views if you are not making a video on the popular products.
Most people will like to choose the former.
Mr. Madhav Seth has given an interview to nearly all big technology publications and is also doing a collaboration with many reviewers. All the things Xiaomi’s Manu Kumar Jain did to make Xiaomi a really popular online brand. The same strategy is aped by Oppo to make Realme a success story.
But more importantly, the brand is keeping the prices really aggressive and giving Xiaomi a hard time. So let’s talk about the new RealME Mobiles in India and see what these have to offer to the buyers.
RealME 2 PRO (Cheapest 8 GB RAM Mobile)
India Launch, Price and Flipkart Sale Date
The RealME 2 Pro is the cheapest 8 GB ram mobile in the Indian market and it costs Rs. 17,999 for the 128 GB storage and 8GB ram version. There are two more versions launched – 4 GB Ram and 64 GB storage (Price Rs. 13,999) and the 6 GB Ram and 64 GB storage (Price Rs. 15,999).
Personally, I will get the base version as I don’t need the 128 GB storage and the addition of 6 or 8 GB ram is not going to make much of a difference to performance.
The phone is exclusive to Flipkart and will go on sale on 11th October 2018 at 12:00 pm. It is available in 3 color choices – black, dark blue, Ice Blue. I like the dark blue version that looks really similar to the Oppo F9 Pro that I reviewed a couple of days back.
Key Specs and Details – RealME 2 Pro
Powering the RealME 2 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-Core Processor with a clock speed of 1.95 GHz and comes with the Adreno 512 GPU. The SD 660 performs nearly the same as the Helio P60 (RealME 1) or the SD 636 used in many other mobiles like the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.
The design for the RealME 2 Pro looks very similar to the Oppo F9 Pro and the Vivo V11 Pro. The Phone has the waterdrop notch display and shiny polycarbonate back cover. There is a 6.3 Inch Full HD+ Display (2340*1080 pixels) with 408 PPI and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The rear camera comes with 16 Megapixel + 2 Megapixel sensors with f/1.7 aperture and ability to record 4K videos at 30 FPS. The phone is using the Sony IMX 398 sensor which is similar to the one used in the OnePlus 5T.
Additionally, at the front, we have a 16 Megapixel camera that comes with a f/2.0 aperture.
The phone comes with the Oppo’s Color OS 5.2 and with the Android Oreo 8.1 OS which has tons of options but at the same time is not as fluid as some other skins.
What’s more, the Realme 2 Pro comes with a 3500 mAH capacity battery that is decent to last all day. There is a 5V/2A fast charger which will offer speedy charging but not as good as the dash charge or VOOC Charge on other Oneplus and Oppo mobiles.
The phone comes with Dual Sim support and it even has a dedicated micro-sd card slot. At the bottom, you will find a micro-USB port instead of the USB type C on rival phones such as the POCO F1 or the Honor Play.
Lastly, the phone weighs 174 grams and has a thickness of 8.5 mm and comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
For the price, it looks like a killer option and undoubtedly will help Realme have a great festive season. If you are looking to buy, wait for some honest and real reviews and then buy it.
I will get the 4 GB ram version in the first sale for a detailed review and let’s see how it actually works.
FAQs – RealME 2 Pro
I am just sharing some of the key questions that I have come across so far about the RealME 2 Pro.
Does it have the TFT or IPS LCD Display? How is the Display Quality?
The RealME 2 Pro uses an LTPS TFT display that Oppo is also using on phones like the Oppo F9 Pro. The display quality is pretty good and it is unlike the Old Cheap TFT displays we have seen on the cheaper phones. You don’t need to worry about the display quality.
2. Does RealME 2 Pro has LED Notification light or the USB Type C Port?
Unfortunately, the RealME 2 Pro lacks a LED notification light. It also does not have the USB TypE C port but instead comes with a micro-USB Port.
3. What is the Battery Capacity? Does RealME 2 Pro supports Fast Charging and How is the Battery Life?
The battery capacity on the RealMe 2 is 3500 mAH and in general use, it is more than sufficient to last 1 full day. The phone comes with a 5V/2A charger and it is not the fastest charger but it offers average charging speeds, much better than the standard 5V/1A slow charger we get with many phones.
4. Should I wait for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro or buy the RealME 2 Pro?
That’s a very good question, and there is no straight answer to it. It depends on the price that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 6 Pro in India. However, if you don’t want to wait for the Redmi Note 6 PRO, you can certainly buy the Realme 2 Pro as it is really value for money.
5. Which variant of the Mobile should I Buy?
I think the base version is great for the Rs. 13,999 price and offers sufficient 4 GB Ram and 64 GB storage. There is no real performance boost you will get if you buy the 6 GB or the 8 GB version of the RealME 2 Pro. If you need extra storage, can buy the 128 GB storage version.
However, better to buy the base variant and if you have a higher budget better to go for the POCO F1 or the Honor Play.
The second phone that the company launched today at the event was the RealME C1 that comes with some exceptional specs for a price of Rs. 6,999.
The brand has said it is a festive offer pricing and may increase it a later date.
The RealME C1 looks far better than most phones in the sub 8k price range and takes on the Xiaomi Redmi 6, 6A and the Huawei Honor 7S. For starters, it comes with a large 6.2 Inch HD+ Display (1520 by 720 pixels) with a 19:9 aspect ratio and 88.8% screen to body ratio.
There is a notch at the top the display that makes it look similar to the RealMe 2 or most Android Mobiles with a notch. Powering the mobile is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-Core Processor with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz and comes with the Adreno 506 GPU.
There is 2 GB of Ram and 16 GB of internal storage which is user expandable upto 256 GB using the dedicated micro-sd card slot. The phone runs on the Android Oreo 8.1 along with the Color OS 5.1 (not the latest 5.2).
Further, it comes with a large 4230 mAH capacity battery that can easily power it for a full day and comes with a 5V/1A charger in the box (no fast charging).
Notably, RealMe shared that the phone supports 5V/2A charging and even has a Corning Gorilla Glass protection. For photography, the phone has a 13 MP + 2 MP Dual rear camera setup and at the front, we have a 5 MP selfie camera. The phone comes with support for the portrait mode and also has the face unlocking feature.
However, there is no fingerprint scanner on this phone like the realme 1. The phone comes in dark blue and black color and measures 8.2 mm in thickness and has a weight of 168 grams.
Same as the Realme 2 Pro the C1 looks great value for money offering from the brand and will definitely be a top seller in the online space. Aforementioned, wait for some real reviews and then can definitely buy it.
The RealME C1 will also go on sale on 11th October 2018 on Flipkart at 12:00 PM similar to the RealMe 2 Pro.
