The New GPU King Arrives
Nvidia today announced the new top of the line Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti.
We were waiting for the announcement for some weeks, and there were plenty of rumors. And finally, the new King of Graphics card has arrived.
Nvidia launched the Nvidia GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 in May End. After almost 8 months of launching the GTX 1080, Nvidia has raised the bar yet again. AMD is into oblivion.
Nvidia CEO Jen Hsun Huang unveiled the new Graphics card at the packed conference hall, at the annual Game Developer Conference (GDC 2017), in San Francisco.
Nvidia Boss promised that the new Graphics card has 35% boost in performance in comparison to the Nvidia GTX 1080. Moreover, it is faster than the Nvidia Titan X Pascal ($1200). The new graphics card will be available from March 10 globally (including India).
Notably, the new Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti will retail from $699 and if we consider the Indian import duties and mark up, we can expect the price to be close to Rs 75,000. The Nvidia GTX 1080 currently retails close to Rs 60,000 in the Indian market.
While there is no competition as of now for Nvidia for the top of the line Nvidia GTX 1080. They have still pushed the limits higher and offered great gaming experience for enthusiasts with the launch of Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti.
AMD Vs Nvidia
AMD, on the other hand, has no offers even to match the GTX 1070. Their best card is AMD RX 480 which competes with the Nvidia GTX 1060. AMD recently launched the Desktop Processors Ryzen to take on the Intel Core i7 processors and plan to unveil the Vega GPU’s in April 2017.
AMD has revealed the name of the upcoming graphics card at a press conference. The upcoming AMD GPU is not called as RX 490 but is named as AMD RX Vega.
Hardware Specs and Details
The major Highlight of the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is it’s unusual 11 GB of GDDR5X VRAM with a clock speed of 11 GHz that is higher in comparison to the Titan X Pascal (10 GHz).
Nvidia Says the graphics card is apt for handling 4K, 5K gaming, HDR, DX 12 and offer immersive VR gaming experience.
The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti comes with 3584 Cuda Cores and offers 35% higher performance to GTX 1080 and a whopping 78% higher performance in comparison to the Nvidia GTX 1070.
Moreover, the new Graphics card comes with a Clock speed of 1.6 GHz and Nvidia Claims that there is enough room to overclock the card to over 2.0 GHz.
Notably, it has 250 Watts TDP and comes with either the 6 pin or 8 pin connector. Also, Nvidia added at first there will be a GTX 1080 Ti Founder edition card that will retail for $699 and later on other manufacturer cards will launch in the market.
Furthermore, the GTX 1080 Ti comes with 12 billion transistors and uses the advanced FinFET manufacturing process.
The new high-airflow thermal solution with vapor chamber cooling improves the use of superior heat dissipation, keeping it cooler . It has 2x the airflow area and a power architecture featuring a seven-phase power design.
