If you haven’t read my article – “Made in India Smartphones- A reality Check,” it is a must-read to understand how phones are made in India or assembled in India.
And how we are still far away from manufacturing essential mobile components that most brands import from China and other countries.
It is currently impossible to manufacture parts like processors, ram, or even PCB for some of the mobiles. Simultaneously, there is a shift from importing fully made phones from China to assembling and manufacturing the phones locally.
However, currently, it’s not possible to have 100% made in India’s phone.
Let’s first look at the new mobiles and later will discuss whether you should spend money on these.
Pricing of Micromax IN series smartphones:
Aforementioned, Micromax’s two new phones are – Micromax In 1B and Micromax In Note 1. These are entry-level and mid-range phones and are affordable offerings from the company.
The phones will be available on the official Micromax website and Flipkart. The Micromax IN Note 1 will go on sale starting November 24th online, and the In 1B will start selling from 27th November 2020.
The Pre-booking for the Micromax In 1B will start from 10th November 2020 at 12:00 pm on Flipkart as confirmed by the brand.
The Micromax IN Note 1 has a price tag of INR 10,999 for 4 GB +64 GB, while INR 12,499 for 4 GB + 128 GB storage variant, and is available in Green and White color.

Micromax Co-founder, Mr. Sharma, hosted the launch event inside the company, and even the video was in Hindi.
The company has promised to offer two years of software updates. Both the phones have dedicated buttons for Google Assistant.
Let’s check out the specification for the IN-series smartphones launched by Micromax.
Micromax IN Note 1 Specifications:
The Micromax In Note 1 is more premium of the two devices launched by the brand. The phone comes with a polycarbonate build and has an X-pattern design at the back. Further, the camera module that looks like Samsung Note 20 and even comes with 4 cameras.
Starting from the processor, powering the IN Note 1 is the Octa-Core MediaTek Helio G85 SoC. It is an 8 Core processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz and has a capable Arm Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.
For those who are concerned, MediaTek is Taiwan based semiconductor manufacturer.
You can easily game on this device and can play games like COD mobile or Asphalt 9 with ease.
One of the biggest positives of these new Micromax phones is the presence of stock Android 10. For the uninitiated, the stock Android from Google offers a fantastic experience and doesn’t come with any third party bloatware. Another highlight is that Micromax is offering 2 years of software updates on these phones.
Note 1 has a big 6.67 inches Full HD+ IPS LCD with 1080 * 2400 pixels resolution. The beautiful phone has a centrally aligned punch-hole display design.
There is plenty of storage and ram as it comes with 4 GB RAM and offers up to 128 GB internal storage.
The phone packs a massive 5000 mAh battery and comes with 18W fast support through a USB Type-C port. Also, it assists in reverse charging if you want to charge another device.
For photography, there is a Quad-rear camera setup. It includes a 48 MP primary lens, a 5 MP wide-angle, 2 MP depth, and 2 MP macro sensors.
You’ll get a 16 MP selfie camera with 78 degrees wide-angle, arranged in a circular cut out pattern on the front side.
The selfie camera can shoot GIFs along with photos and videos. The rear camera comes with an LED flash.
Other features include night mode and AI imaging.
For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual Volte 4G support. Also, we have the modern USB Type C port, and Micromax is also not taking away the headphone jack.
The mobile offers a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor (it even supports face unlock).
You can purchase the latest Micromax IN Note 1 from November 24, 2020, from Micromax Official website or Flipkart.
Overall the Note 1 from Micromax is a solid offering for the base price of Rs. 10,999, and on paper, it is hard to find fault with it.
Now let’s have a look at the specs for the Micromax In 1B.
Micromax IN 1B Specifications:
The phone comes with a large 6.52 inches HD+ (1600*900 pixels) display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It has a tiny water-drop notch for the selfie camera.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Octa-Core MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. It is an 8 Core processor that comes with a 2.3 GHz max clock speed and also has the IMG PowerVR GE8320 with a 680 Mhz clock speed.
The Micromax IN 1B is available in 2GB / 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB storage, expandable via microSD card. The 4 GB ram and 64 GB storage version is an absolute steal for the price tag of Rs 7,999.
It has a conventional 5000 mAh battery with 10W charging support and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Micromax IN 1b contains a vertically aligned dual rear camera assembly with a 13 MP (f/1.8) primary lens and 2 MP depth sensor. Additionally, it has an 8 MP front camera and a LED flash.
Moreover, for security, the phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock.
It also comes with the Stock Android 10 Os, and like the Note 1, it will even get software updates for 2 years.
The Micromax 1B also has Dual sim Support with 4G Volte and will work with Airtel, JIO, and VI sim cards.
Should You Open Your Wallets for Micromax
Considering the price point, the phones launched by Micromax are a steal. They are affordable and tick all the right boxes. Having stock Android without bloat and ads is unmatched in this price range.
I will blindly pick the Micromax phones over Xiaomi or Samsung if they can offer painless after-sales service.
In 2014, when Micromax was the No. 2 player in the Indian mobile market, they were buying China-made mobiles and re-labeling them. There was little the company did to push Indian manufacturing, as it was cheaper to import from China and pocket the profits.
Not only that, they never really cared about the end buyer – the after-sales service was far worst than these Chinese players, and the product quality control, future updates, and bug fixes were non-existent.
The brand is now promising something different “A dream of a High-Quality phone that is made in India.”
Notably, there is anguish in India over what happened on the India-China border, and people want a good quality yet affordable, made in India products.
But is Micromax milking the situation?
Or is committed to creating a brand that can provide – quality products at low prices, decent after-sales service, and a good user experience.
The brand name “IN” itself is positioning them as an Indian company and appeals to the masses who want an India made phone.
What are the company’s plans to offer customer service, and can they provide the promised software updates in the future?
A few years back, they launched a brand called “Yu,” and the phones were terrible; after-sales support and software updates were pathetic.
For buyers who have burned money on Micromax devices, it will take time for the brand to rebuild the lost trust.
You can go ahead and buy the phones if you want to help the brand grow quickly.
